I chose āotherā for Leo XIII.
My father was named Leo. He was born in 1899 during Leo XIIIās pontificate. His parents were Catholic, so I imagine he was named after the Pope.
At the time I was born, my parents were attending a Protestant church. I was raised in that church. My grandparents were deceased and I didnāt know my dad had any Catholic roots. He never mentioned it and he died when I was fairly young.
I stopped going to church when I was 16 and paid no attention to religion for 25 years or so. I got to a point, though, where I felt like I needed a spiritual dimension in my life and started searching. Iām not going to try to tell that story here, but I found my way home to the Catholic Church.
Once a Catholic, I was doing some genealogy research and realized that my grandparents were Catholic, that my father was born into a Catholic family, and that he was probably named after the Pope! I didnāt know any of this until after I had already found my way home. I have to think I had some help in finding my way.
My middle name is Leo, after my father, from Leo XIII, I think, so I have a special affection for him.
Leo XIII had a very long pontificate and wrote many encyclicals. I hope someday to read through them all and learn more about him.
