It wasn’t just Therese’s actions of sacrefice and reparation, it was the way she conditioned her mind to be so…pure. She cleansed her soul - and offered it up to Jesus - for US! Truly amazing in such a short life.
The other Teresa was pure but had to fight her neighbors, townsfolk, the Inquisition, confessors who told her to make rude gestures at her apparitions, scandal, weather, and anything that got in her way of building convents. She was also very blunt with Our Lord. One anecdote goes,On one occasion Teresa complained to God about her mistreatment from so many different people. God replied to her saying “That is how I always treat my friends” with good humour St Teresa replied “That must be why you have so few friends!” (from
here)I cannot imagine the Little Flower thinking this. I am rather feisty myself, so I wanted to choose Teresa as my patron to learn when to speak and when NOT to speak. Hee!
.
Therese’s Little Way was much more difficult, to me. It was the “little sacrefices” which surpassed our immediate wants and desires that
weren’t my particular charism – I’d rather be out there with hard justice tempered with the most sincere humility. I sincerely dmire those who can do the “Little Way” quietly and in charity and without making Pharisees of themselves.
