There are still some good shows on secular TV now - what’s your current favorite? Mine is Monk. I love the character of Adrian Monk and the interplay between him and Sharona. And the love that character has for his late wife is so touching. 🙂

Life With Bonnie. We love Bonnie Hunt. Believe it or not, I also sometimes watch Will and Grace. Not because of the premise of the show (heterosexual woman w/ gay male room mate) but because of the way Jack is portrayed. Jack is a friend of Will and Grace and he’s SO gay. Mannerisms, voice-- the whole 9 yards. He’s portrayed as jumping from bed to bed with one boyfriend after another. He openly admits being “in love” with one man today and another tomorrow. As much as the gay community wants to portray homosexual relationships as stable and normal, the Jack character is the opposite! Interesting. --KCT

big guilty look on face

Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David is a comedic genius! It’s the same reason I can watch Seinfeld over & over.

this my favorite too and for the same reasons:)

*Monk * is good. (It moves around a lot though)

The West Wing.

I can watch Law & Order any time (literally 😛 thanks to Ted Turner)
In the criminal justice system the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: The District Attorneys, who prosecute the offenders, and Those Meddling Kids and Their Stupid Dog who investigate crimes. These are their stories…
Law & Order, Mystery Machine Unit

West Wing, ER, on NBC

Modern Marvels on the History Channel

Star Trek, the Next Generation reruns on Spike TV

The Science Channel, anything on outer space, cosmos.

This is an interesting topic.

I would have to say Doc on PAX TV. The show has interesting characters who you love to love – and some you love to hate. But what I like most is that in each episode, there is an overriding moral message. It’s very wholesome and cuts through all the other junk that’s out there.

The other show that I would recommend to anyone who has access to it is Road to Avonlea. It is a spin-off series of the *Anne of Green Gables *movies. I can’t say enough good things about it. The only problem is, the series is over now and only in reruns. I think it airs on some cable stations, but I’m not sure which ones.

Monk
Hercule Poirot mysteries on A&E
Seventh Heaven
American Dreams

Not all are free of objectionable material, but overall, I enjoy these shows.

That’s kind of a valuable point to admit. Sometimes we can watch things, even when there are objectionable parts.

As a priest I know (who writes movie reviews for a diocesan paper) says: Even when the bishops label a movie as "O - Morally Offensive" they are not saying “Don’t see this movie”,they are saying “If you see this, *expect * to have your morals offended” (and by implication: If you do not find your sense of morality offended, you might want to investigate that)

I watch Law and Order, the regular, and SVU. They rock. I also watch that 70’s show, cause it’s really funny. My all-time favorites were Buffy and Angel, but they got cancelled, so I hardly watch tv anymore.

I just wanted to warn a bit about some secular TV. My wife and I were watching SCI-FI channel with my son one evening a discovered that, although the shows may not be all that bad, THE COMMERCIALS were EXTREMELY sexual and in poor taste. Whichever secular tv you watch, me cautious of the ads that pay for that show to air. THEY are the ones who make or break the show. I suggest watching your child’s favorite show for an hour or 2 with them, and make note of the commercials. That will be a good judge for you. IMHO.

We really like Everybody loves Raymond and E.R.
I love the repeats on Everybody loves Raymond as I didn’t watch it the first few years it came out so they are all new to me.

My kids really like I love Lucy, Brady bunch & Little House on the Prairie. We let our daughter watch I dream of Genie now that she is almost 11 and knows it just pretend, when she was younger she thought you could actually do stuff by nodding your head like genie but now she just thinks its a silly show and actually pretty bad acting as far as making it look like real magic 😃

The greatest TV show ever to exist has to be The Simpsons!! Compared to the smutfest that is “reality TV”, the simpsons looks like a lesson in Christian morality, even if Lisa is a total liberal!

OldSchool…

I have to agree. And they do go to chuch all the time 😉

doh. I lost my post so Ill try again.
KTC- I found the same thing you saw in will & grace on 6 feet under. I think some in the homosexual movement would rather not see homosexuality promoted as what it realistically is. At least the first season of 6 feet under really showed how homosexual desires are desires for only pleasure/ not respectful of the dignity of the person-- I remember being shocked that the homosexual community hadnt come out (excuse the pun!) against the show for such a dark portrayal of the homosexuals plight.

that being said we are huge buffy and angel fans and unlike that envoy article that sort of denounced Buffy along with ‘charmed’ we thought buffy had great storylines and characters that provoked theological contemplation. I always thought the depiction of Holy Water from the Catholic Church, Crucifixes warding off vampires and Churches being holy ground-- well thats sending a message no??

My favorite shows have both been cancelled. Two of the best shows on cable were Farscape and Babylon 5. I buy the DVD’s as they are released so that I can still watch them whenever I like. I am also glad that Farscape will get to have a proper ending, thanks in good part to the concerted efforts of 'scapers around the world. (Farscape fans are AWESOME!!) I won’t go into my discourse on B-5, though (I did that on the science fiction poll thread).
Two new shows that I try not miss are Joan of Arcadia (LOVE the concept!) and Cold Case.
Other than that, I watch whatever catches my interest as I am channel surfing.
Have a great day,
Judy

Yes, I love Monk as well. Absolute, bar none my favorite show at this time.

I also enjoy various Star Trek reruns. Not pure and clean but really enjoy Futurama and Family Guy on the adult swim night programming of cartoon network. Enjoy the various Law& Order shows, but been watching SVU most as it usually precedes Monk. 🙂

Scrubs by far for me.

I like watching the Simpsons, Frasier, E.R, M.A.S.H and for a darker theme show The Sopranos. Has that wierd, "Is this for real? Like watching a bad accident. It’s wrong to stare but for some reason I can’t help it. :ehh: hehehe

I don’t really have other favorite shows although there are certain channels I like watching.

TV Land for The Munsters and The Addams Family.

Animal Planet for their favorite pet show. Something like America’s Craziest Pets. Probably got that wrong but you get the idea.
