Hi:
One of my favorites is Luciano Pavoratti’s O Holy Night CD.
Count me in, joey(name removed by moderator). It wouldn’t be Christmas without this one.

I also like Mantovani’s majestic instrumental arrangements of the traditional carols.

And Steve Green’s version of “Silent Night” includes the finest choral rendition I have ever heard.

My 2 favorites are Trans-Siberian Orchestra “ChristmasEve and Other Stories” And Chicago XXV ~ Kathy ~
TS Orchestra is great. My favorite would have to be Perry Como sings Merry Christmas Music. My parents had the record (record??) and my mom used to put a stack of records on the hi fi (hi fi??) when we went to bed. I fell asleep listening to Perry at Christmas time. Now I have him on tape. I should get the CD because the tape is old.

Depends on my mood…

When I want something upbeat I listen to TSO (either Christmas Eve and Other Stories or the Christmas Atic). :dancing:

When I’m feeling more traditional I listen to Bing Crosby…I’m dreaming of a white christmasss  (I can’t find a singing smilie)

However when I don’t have a ccd player (which is quite often) I just find an all Christmas music radio station and enjoy 👍

My favorite year after year is The Bells of Dublin, by the Chieftains. I love Marianne Faithful singing O Holy Night, and the renditon of Il est ne. Another favorite is an old LaserLight label cheapie called Christmas in the Alps. It seems. though, that every year a different CD captures my fancy. The Boston Camerata does good work, too!

Trans Siberian Orchestra has a couple different CDs…the music is great! 🙂

Christmas in a Trappist Monastery, it was a LP record a million years ago, If I ever find it in CD I will buy it, because it is beautiful.

The Oakridge Boys,👍 “Thank God for Kids”, I love that song and “Little one” I have it only on a cassette and no longer have a cassette player, does anyone know where I can get a CD of this? I bought this when my children were little (in the late 80’s) Now I have grandbabies:love: and love to hear it again.
Is this it at Amazon: Christmas with the Oakridge Boys?

I have a CD by a local artist playing Christmas songs on the harp. Man oh man! Talk about soothing and beautiful! I just love it.

Some of my favorite Christmas music on c.d.:
  1. Season’s Greetings-Dean Martin
  2. Frank Sinatra Christmas
  3. In The Christmas Mood I & II-Glenn Miller Orchestra
  4. Pretty Paper- Willie Nelson
  5. Soulful Christmas- Aaron Neville
    🙂

I found the boxed set of Christmas records by Lawerence Welk (put out by Readers Digest) my parents had when I was growing up at a local thriftstore and I was so excited.

I also love both Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby.

More modern Christmas albums include the Mannheim Steamrollers and Transiberian Orchestra.

The Transiberian album was the first Christmas album my husband has ever like - he’s not a big Lawerence Welk fan.

What is your favourite Christmas CD? I’m trying to expand my Christmas CD collection and would like some suggestions.

Gearoidin
I don’t consider the Christmas season as having officially begun until I hear these songs on the radio:
  1. Andy Williams - The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
  2. Johnny Mathis - It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
  3. Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You
Despite the fact the Ms. Carey acts like a crazed exhibitionist much of the time (Yes, Mariah, you’ve shown the audience yet again that you “forgot” your knickers under your dress), I must concede that her voice is beautiful, and this particular song of hers is by far and away my favorite of all the “new” Christmas songs.

If you want to hear something truly ethereal, yet beautiful, track down Enya singing “Silent Night” in Gaelic.

Also, I think these Christmas carols deserve more exposure than they get here in America; I know they’re more common in the U.K. and Ireland:
Good King Wenceslas
I Saw Three Ships
Here We Come A-Wassailing

Is it really possible that so far no one has mentioned CELINE DION?

Oh gosh guys, you’ve gotta get out there and buy that CD. Her version of ‘Oh Holy Night’ will bring tears to your eyes (at least it always does for me!).

What else… i also like the old school Oakridge Boys, Amy Grant’s old Christmas CD (not her most recent), Manheim Steamroller (b/c they’re from Omaha which is where I’m originally from!)

I totally agree! I also love that song on there, “Another Year Has Gone By” and her version of “The Prayer” with Andrea Bocelli. The whole album is fantastic.

Other favorites:
A Charlie Brown Christmas

Aaron Neville’s Soulful Christmas (you got to hear his “The Bells of St. Mary’s”)

Bing Crosby’s White Christmas

Alabama Christmas (“Christmas in Dixie”… if you’re from the South you’ll understand…it’s like our Christmas anthem, equivalent to Skynard’s “Sweet Home Alabama”)

Gene Autry’s Rudolph

The Nutcracker

Garth Brooks’ Beyond the Season (if you’ve never heard “The Gift”, you just gotta…a poor orphaned girl named Maria was walking to market one day…)

Lorrie Morgan’s Merry Christmas from London (I loved her version of “My Favorite Things”)

I love Christmas music, so each year I add more and different sounds to my Christmas CD collection. However, I would have to say that my favorite is John Berry’s *O, Holy Night *CD. If you’ve never heard him, you are really missing something special. I love it so much that I have both the live version and the studio version. The live version is even better than the studio version, which as we all know is rarely the case with most artists.

Martina McBride - White Christmas
Alan Jackson - Let it be Christmas

Anything by Mannheim Steamroller! Their rendition of “Veni, Veni Emmanuel” is what introduced me to traditional Latin music…good stuff!!

Ditto! It’s a beautiful rendition.
