Also, what about Les Claypool from Primus and his wicked bass.
If you like Les Claypool you might like the all-star group Oysterhead–Claypool on bass, the guitarist from Phish, and Stewart Copeland, drummer from The Police.

Favorites: The Violet Burning, Kings X, Iona, Big Country.

Favorites I don’t usually admit to: The Cars, Blondie, The Police, The Psychedelic Furs–stuck in the 80s, I guess.

Hmm…?

I don’t know anyone who likes Semisonic! lol I have their cd…and love closing time. 👍
I like “Closing Time” now. When it was a huge hit, I was sick of it because every local band playing at a bar or coffeehouse always did that one as their last song of the night. I went to a lot of shows back then, so it definitely wore out it’s welcome. I like it now that it is not overplayed.

-Bon Jovi
"Whoa we’re half way there…whoaaaa O…Living on a prayer…take my hand and we’ll make it I swear…whoa o Living on a Prayer…

Sorry I went back to a place from so long ago.

I see that you are from Portugal, which makes me think of the time last December when my wife and I were in Mexico and took a cab and the driver was listening to Bon Jovi, it was just a shock to see how universal they were as a band.

I can imagine…!
Another fave of mine is kind of different…
Daft Punk…they play lots of dance type music.

and I also thought of Maroon 5…they are very talented!👍

  1. This topic is from over a year ago. 😛
  2. I don’t really like the Ramones. Much of their music just sounds the same.

The Ramones:cool:
😃 The Ramones are my favorite band too! Do you have a favorite song? My favorite song by them is Wart Hog. I think dee dee was going through a lot at that time and gave his all into that song.

Has anyone listing their favorite rock bands given any thought to whether or not God is being honored by them? I grew up listening to rock, so I know all the songs…then got into alternative music in my twenties…since my conversion ten years ago, I have, by the grace of God, weaned myself from bands who do not honor God somehow in their music. Their lyrics can subtly influence our lives, whether we believe it or not.
What I really enjoy these days is Christian alternative rock…there are many different styles. And you never have to wonder if you’re offending God by what you’re listening to. Just as everything else in life, we can’t separate music from our walk with God. He wants to be in ALL parts of our lives…and music can be a very big part. I know it is an elixir for me…
There is also a correlation between Satan and ungodly music. I won’t go into that too deeply here, but it’s worth looking into, and it makes sense. One article to start with, although I’m not sure if the author is Catholic, but it’s good reading is found at geocities.com/Athens/Forum/4255/study24.html.
I also just found out something quite amazing the other day…it is regarding Christian, or praise and worship music, specifically…it’s from Psalm 22:3…“God inhabits the praises of His people”…so if you want to really sense that God is with you, inhabiting you, praise Him, praise Him with song…imagine how much you love the music you listen to…now imagine how much you’ll change and love music both pleasing to God and that will cause Him to inhabit your singing to Him. I also read you bind Satan’s power by praise. And in these times, we need to be concerned with binding Satan and his minions who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. It’s time for vigilance!
God bless!

The author of that article is probably not Catholic. He calls himself a “born again Christian,” which is a term used by some sects of Protestants. I have never heard it applied by Catholics to themselves. Plus he went to Tyndale Theological Seminary, whose doctrinal statement embraces Sola Scriptura. So, unless he’s a convert like me…

I have a little problem with his article. He takes two or three words from two passages (out of the entire Bible), and uses them to prove that all music is either Godly or satanic. I find that method (which I’ve run into before) pretty silly, and the conclusion really hard to believe.

But he has a good point about what we allow to unconsciously filter into our minds when we have music on all the time. I know it can effect me. Last time I got stopped for speeding, it was a sunny day, the road was dry and straight, and I was singing along to Willis Alan Ramsey. Sunny, straight, and singing along (whether to Eric Clapton or Beethoven’s Ninth) will get me every time!

Now, 'scuse me while I go listen to an opera while I fold some clothes… 😃

God bless us all, composers, performers, and listeners,

Ruthie

Boy, this thread went inactive for a loooong time before coming back.

If a thread on a subject that interests you has been 6 months without a post, it’s probably better to just start a new one.

I don’t listen to music that’s overly sexual or violent, but I have no problem with Live [Ken Wilber inspired rock] or Cloud Cult [vaguely Buhdist].

I have to say I get a little exhausted by the sinful this, sinful that threads. I know so many righteous people who are casually cruel, angry, judgemental, snide, condescending, harsh, rude or hurtful.

I think we are far more accountable for how we treat one another than what we have on our ipods.

This isn’t aimed at any poster on this thread, just something I’ve felt the need to say ever since I became active on this fourm again.

I by no means meant to imply that music must be divided into Satanic or Christian…I was just trying to encourage people to give Christian rock and/or alternative a chance…for those who love rock, as I do…and I’ve recently realized the reason I feel so good when I listen…again, He inhabits the praise of his people. This was amazing to me, a real eye opener.

Plenty of Christian bands also have their songs playing on mainstream stations…(praise God)…they’re getting through to more than just those who already know Jesus.

I have to agree…when I first became a Christian, I unintentionally was judgmental, seeing things as black or white mostly. In time, I became more objective, and there are those out there who have no idea that what they’re listening to can be hindering their relationship with God.

And, we are called to instruct the ignorant, according to the spiritual works of mercy.

God bless,
Lisa
