A Seventh-Day Adventist facebook friend (whom I have known and loved since my childhood) posted this on FB. Pretty much sums up why I am Catholic.

"There is a big difference between “The Church” and “the denomination” of which we are a member. The Christian church teaches about God’s love and grace. It says that soon Jesus is coming back to take His children home.

Denominations add add what they believe the Holy Spirit has shown them about prophecies, living on earth now, etc."

The SDA Church is a church that does not speak about many truths. Their church started with their leader believing that the world would end in 1843-44. Which we know from scripture that nobody knows when the world will end but only the Father.

My gf is a SDA, and we have been reading the Bible and I have seen so far that her Church does not speak truth

I am also quite familiar with the SDA. They are taught hatred of the Catholic Church. Very sadly, some of their members propagate what are clearly fabricated lies in order to lead Catholics away from the “whore of Babylon” to their version of truth. Their beliefs are very easy to deconstruct, and do not stand up to critical examination. Fundamentalist Christians, in particular do not like the SDA at all. I can only pray for them.

I remember that my gf said to me, the Pope changed the Sabbath to Sunday, with Constantine. I had read about it, and had some stuff from the Church Fathers. So one day when were together, I got my IPAD and showed her what she had talked about, what it was that Constantine allowed Christians to celebrate their faith publicly without having to do it privately like they had the first 300 yrs due to persecution. In the article it stated that the early Christians were celebrating mass on Sundays, something that they had done sine the 1st century. She was shocked and changed the topic. I on the other hand fought hard. I said, look your church is lying to you.

When we started reading the bible, I asked, what does your church state about contraception. I started looking up verses that went against contraception, So far were in Psalms, but we have read quite a bit of verses that go against contraception. Last Thursday she stated, IDK why my church allows it and its wrong. Monday she said, well the pastors don’t preach it from the pulpit. I told her, prob not but they allow it, and that goes against God’s wishes.

Unfortunately their minds are played with, and their good intentions are sometimes compromised by their faith

I grew up SDA… and passed thru Baptist, LCMS Lutheran and finally Catholic… sorta getting closer and closer till I came home ].

What your FB friend means, most likely, when they say “the church” is the “invisible church”. Those believers known only to God in each denomination who are truly his but are not identified by any particular visible organization.

And man o man were we taught to dislike, hate and fear the Catholic church.

I’m actually surprised to find out how much SDA hates Catholicism. I’ve personally only known one family well, and they were very nice folks. They once invited my wife and me to a party at their home and I was surprised to see all the single folks with children there. Then was when I learned that they don’t wear jewelry.

Some of their habits are a little strange but they left my Catholic faith alone. Perhaps they thought a good friendship was more important than a convert.

I was raised SDA but left it behind when I was in my thirties because it just didn’t seem right in so many ways. I have read materials lately which state some SDA beliefs that simply appall me, far too numerous to list out here. Yes, indeed, there was and still is a loathing for the Catholic Church that is most unChristlike. I thought my sister would have an apoplectic fit when she found out I was converting and I don’t think she’ll ever accept it. Ever.

However, there were and still are wonderful Christians within the SDA denomination, my parents being just two of them. They raised the three of us with Christian values and an abiding love of God, and for that I am grateful.

My friend’s statement would lead one to believe that the Holy Spirit is a bit schitzophrenic (sp?) but I’m going to refrain from posting that LOL.

Jesus Christ defeated death and rose from the dead on Sunday. He first appeared to the Ap[ostles on that same Sunday. He sent His Holy Spirit, giving birth to the Church, on Sunday. In **Acts 20:7, it is written that the Apostles gathered and celebrated the breaking of the bread on Sundays, “the first day of the week”, which became known very soon as the “Lord’s day”. John in the 1st chapter of revelation, states that he was “in the spirit on the Lord’s day…” (Rev 1:10)

As well, Paul wrote: “Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a sabbath.” Colossians 2:16

I don’t think their bibles are different from this. I just wish they would actually read them.

Oh, they read their Bibles but then go running to Ellen White books for her interpretation.

Have you gone through Humanae Vitae by Paul VI? (just suggesting)…😃

I ran into one sometime ago…so I asked how he believes his interpretation is correct? So he asked, in counter, how do I know mine is correct?

So I cited the example of Paul in Gal 2:2 running to the apostles to submit his gospel…and 1john4…v6.

I said we follow this example…my understanding direct from the successor of Peter. So I asked him to show me how he follows the example of St. Paul and show me a connection to any apostle…he never returned.

Not to mention Acts 15, in which Paul had no answer to the Judaizers who demanded that Christian men be circumcised. Did he go on to privately interpret the OT scriptures? No! He went to the Church and their answer was definitive for all time.

I did mention to her, I believe please forgive me if I get the book wrong, but in acts I believe it is, that Paul goes to a town abc they break bread on Sunday. Her response was that they did that on Sunday and not on Saturday bc Paul had to leave.

See my problem with hat is she won’t listen to any of that. She’s one of these, show it to me in the bible persons. I mean which is fine bc te bible is a catholic book, so everything that we believe is in there.

ask her to show you in the Bible where it says that everything you need to believe is in the Bible. Because if that is so why didn’t Jesus just write a book? We know he could read and write. So why bother teaching Apostles when he could have had everything written down. Even the Bible says it doesn’t contain all that Jesus did and said. That’s what the Church is for.

Now, this is where the SDA has run off the rails. They simply make stuff up. Nowhere in scripture is there any evidence whatsoever for the SDA’s fabricated claim.
