You evil rebel!

I am convinced it because people on CAF don’t have to add a picture or say their real name-that changes everything. When you have your name and real life frieneds attached to what you say it changes your attitude.
I also think people on here care more about my spiritual welfare than those on FB, and, of course, too many times we confuse retraction for meanness or condemnation. CAF us not for the sensitive, you must be able to handle the hard truth sometimes. On FB it’s all a " you are SOOOOOOOO sexy, I just love everything you do, xoxoxo, hotnesssss, don’t you all love my life" culture.
I really hope you do not believe FB profiles are real any more than reality tv! FB is all about how fun, exciting, adventurous, successful etc life is. People walk around with the camera/ phone strapped to them hoping to capture that one awesome moment that they can later brag about with on facebook. I’ve seen TONS of couples come and go and each time it was the same ridiculous: I love you, pictures galore of them everywhere together, then a period where they’d all be removed and a couple of months later a new face with which the cycle continues.

But that’s not the worst, the worst is when mommies are all goo goo gaga over their babies but in real life they are totally miserable or those women who are all ā€œhere I am with the love of my lifeā€ but in reality they’re on the verge of break up or divorce.

There’s no " dislike" button. I think that says it all šŸ˜›

Having said all this, yes I know there are exceptions and all for those who want to get defensive, I do consider your points and I’m glad this is not what -you- witness on facebook but this is the vast reality.

Anyway the only common factor this post is addressing ( between CAF and FB) is the addictive one. Cuz differences, we do know, are plentiful!

Well first of all wearing tank tops and having tattoos (mine happen to be symbolic and/or religious) have nothing to do with my spiritual welfare and usually the things people tell me call me names and make horrible accusations on here for have very little to do with looking out for my spiritual welfare.(like someone called me a fornicator because I said that even if someone lost their virginity before marriage, that doesn’t mean they can’t go on to live a holy and pure life later on (and as it turns out I lost mine to rape)) It has nothing to do with refuting my arguments, but making personal attacks on the writer. This is very common in forums though. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me, but do not tell me I am not a true Catholic or a bad person because I disagree (especially when it is on a subject that the Church has NO stance on (like tattoos).

By the way, FB is only like that if you have friends/family that are that way. Mine aren’t. It is a good way for me to give updates on life to family and friends and helps me keep in contact even though I have a busy schedule and live in a different time zone. Also I can show my family pictures of us at important parts of our lives. Like my family couldn’t afford to fly out when I was confirmed, but at least they got to see pictures. Also I can see pictures of what is going on with my family. Like what is going on with my sister who lives in Mexico. I only can afford to go see her and the rest of my family at most twice a year, but usually only once. My family is close so it is hard.

FB is what you and your friends/family make of it. Unfortunately with forums there will always be trolls and people who just want to call you names and rip you apart. I have made some good friends here though, but the longer I stay on, the more I question whether it is worth it to continue on here.

Well anonymity does change how people dare to behave.

I don’t have a facebook and neither does my wife. I cannot tell you how many ā€œdramaā€ Situations we have avoided because of this. Both of us are active in our parish and it is sad to see so many fights, squabbles and hurt feeling come with the word ā€œfacebookā€

I wear it like a badge of honor. ā€œI don’t have a facebookā€ is now the new ā€œI dont even own a TV.ā€

rekindled affairs, gossip, misunderstandings, flirting, drunk pictures… no thanks!
I totally agree with you and the people I most respect in my life, young and old, do not do FB. I think most people only post what they want others to see, try to brag, show off etc. it’s a great incubator of narcissism.

My mom is in her late 60’s and does not use a computer. My sister was describing Facebook. My mom’s answer was ā€œSo now people do this instead of inviting someone over for a cup of coffee?ā€
No.

I have family in Brazil, Venezuela, North Carolina, and Ohio. I’m in Florida.

I recently moved pretty far away from where I grew up, and left all my best friends behind.

…Sometimes you can’t ā€œinvite someone over for a cup of coffee.ā€

Facebook has been amazing because it’s made it a lot easier for me to stay in touch with many, many people I care about.

Precisely. I never have people telling me on Facebook that I am not a true Catholic because I wear tank tops in the summer, or that since I have tattoos I am somehow an evil rebel. lol
Haha… or that I shouldn’t have gotten married because it’s been a year and I still have just reasons to avoid having kids. 😃

Yup, absolutely. And same here, and I too have been called names.

This is true as well… I see a couple people on here talking about all the fights and horror stories going on between their facebook friends/family, and I have to say I’ve never witnessed anything like that. I just figured the people who claim this must know some pretty ā€œinterestingā€ folks. 🤷

LOVE Facebook.

I have connected with distant family members. I’ve built a lot of business on my biz page. And I’ve reconnected with a lot of childhood friends. That’s been the most fun. People I went to school with for years, but over time we moved, had families etc.

I’ve helped plan high school reunions, though FB. Made it a cake walk! And now nearly our whole class is connected. It’s not like we’re all bff’s, but it has helped many people.

I’ve seen people help others spread resumes, and jobs have been gotten.

So there is a lot of GOOD to be had.

Certainly, there can be other issues. I actually learned that one of my ā€œfriendsā€ was an absolute tramp. Her lack of common sense in posting, well let’s just say, I won’t be networking through her. And that’s a GOOD THING for me. It saves my reputation.

You do sometimes learn just how petty some people can be. It’s weird to be ā€œdefriendedā€. But incredibly educational.

I worry about kids that don’t understand the permanence of stupidity when posted on the web.

Since FB, my e-mail has quit filling up with forwards of jokes and such. They just land on FB! That’s kinda nice.

I do not worry about offending non believers with my posts. If they don’t like them, they can defriend me. If they want to NICELY discuss it, we can. If they want to be rude. I’ll block them. So simple.

I do not engage in political discussions on FB. Or with just about anyone really.

What’s more addicti ng for you? Which do you check more often, which keeps you more from a stronger prayer life or from family, service of others etc.?

Personally, I consider CAF contributes to my spiritual growth and also allows me to be a,t the service of others BUT, deep down, I know I spend too much of my free time on here, and, that many posters would benefit more from my prayers than my replies… I just. can’t. put it down
I like CAF more, honestly, and I’m 14 lol. I check facebook about meh 4 times a day. I am on CAF like all the time if I’m not at school. I love you guys!šŸ‘
