I have trouble with vanity in many ways. I’m afraid of praying to fight against vanity that I’ll get chin hair and/or acne. Or something very embarrassing will happen to me like maybe i will start my period early on a day I wear white. I’ll be humbled. That’s what scares me about prayer.

Well, no one wants those things, but if they’re the worst things you have going on in your life, you’re doing pretty well. Pray for God to help you with perspective and to have a more grateful and humble heart for the things you have.

God cares for you in all ways. Just try to humble yourself about what is important in life, or focus and pray more for others than for self, and eventually it will equal out.

One of my jobs I get tips at. I told God I would tithe my tips, and that releases me from a lot of fretting. If we have a slow night, I just talk to God about it, and know that if He wants me to have a slow night, it’s for a good reason.

So I would suggest that you pray, because if you do, and tbose things happen, you will be much better equipped to deal with it 🙂

What if you humble yourself and save the Lord the trouble?

You sound young, but you are never too young to read and reflect on Thomas á Kempis’ classic The Imitation of Christ. A wealth of humbling information to reflect on in it.

LOL I can relate to those fears! But look at it this way. God humbles the proud. You can either enter voluntarily into humility, or have yourself be humbled by Him. Is it not better to volunteer? You have the opportunity to relinquish voluntarily those things to which you cling that might increase your vanity.

44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but when it falls on any one, it will crush him.” Matt. 21:44

Jesus is the Rock. When we encounter Him, we will either have our pride ground into powder (crushed) or we will be broken. It might seem like the lesser of to evils to throw ourselves upon His mercy, and be broken by His grace than to end up crushed because we would not be separated from pride and vanity.

If you grow a mustache or chin hair, no problemo! Get a tube of Nair Hair Remover or one of those new Flawless hair removers for around $20, I think? Otherwise, you can let everyone think you are Groucho Marx.

Being humbled is not fun. Periods are a real pain. I used to tell class mates that it was nail polish. Whether they believed me, I don’t know. I don’t think God does these things for embarrassment purposes. They just happen.

I like some of the pranks He plays that are harmless and funny. Sometimes scary. I went to church one day and the lady behind me brushed a spider off my dress. (I didn’t know I was harboring an arachnid buddy.) Another time on a bus I found a big dragonfly attached to my lapel. At the time I was really afraid of bugs. I got up and let out a yelp. The creature flew out of an open window and I lost my seat on the bus.

So goes life. If God does humble us from time to time, I think it would be in ways that make sense. He wouldn’t use a poor big defenseless dragon fly to drive home a point.

Speaking of humiliations: did you know what “guano” is when you chose your username? (Hint: it’s usually found in bat caves.)

Indeed, a prize for any organic gardener!

But that is not why I chose it, it was assigned to me by a spell checker that thought it was the correct spelling of my name. 😃

There are worse things than acne and chin hair. I wouldn’t want my acne to worsen or to feel masculine with a newly sprouted light mustache or a few chin hairs on where a beard should be. Period mistakes as an adult suck. It seems more forgivable to have those as a teen.

It can certainly feel like those things matter. I guess ultimately when you die, it doesn’t matter how cute you were

I wonder if any guys on here are getting an education on things that women worry about! 😃

God is not sitting up there waiting to zing you with a prank because you prayed for the wrong thing.

Pray the litany of humility!!

As someone who has fought random chin hairs since high school I can say, no big deal. Get you a man who loves you for who you are and keep tweezers EVERYWHERE. In your purse, bathroom, car, desk drawer at work, and maybe two more in the car, because they reaaaaally are noticeable in the sun. 😆

There are many ways to pray.

Why don’t you start with prayers of Thanksgiving for the good in your life? They come from God, and He appreciates it when you say thank you. At the end of your prayers, you could tell Him, “Your will not mine.” And promise to do your best for His Greater Glory.

Before you go to bed each night write down three things in your life that make you grateful. The next day thank Him for those things and others.

Before long, you will be praying more and more each day.
