really? I’m kind of surprised, because no, I’m not bitter. I’m actually very easy, free thinking. And no, I’m not trying to cause trouble at all. I’m just trying to share my opinion, and my observations of the world around me. Sorry it bothers you so much

Bartolome Casas and Rence – thank you for speaking so much truth in a forum where critical thought is unappreciated. Indeed you spoke with wisdom and I think reflect what the higher percentage of Catholics think. Perhaps this forum needs more thinkers who are willing to consider more than just one point of view or one interpretation. We can love our Church and God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit – and still challenge the dominant opinions on this website. Jesus did not teach us to be mindless – but rather to seek truth.

This is a false dichotomy, and a pretty apparent one at that.

Sure the Church needs to emphasize its teaching on life issues. I’ll buy that.

But why not also oppose having your government force a religion to gravely violate its conscience?

I’m good for that one, too. Simply by virtue of my citizenship, I’m frightened at the fast quick-take of our constitutional rights.

As a Catholic, don’t you find it appalling that your church would be bent over and forced to break its teaching? I think we all acknowledge that the church teachings are a moral rudder; why let them break it?

As to polls and such, take it with a grain of salt. There are always liars and sinners, and here it is clear that polls are rubbed with an Aura of Science and somehow make us think that the behavior that is reported is The Behavior That Should Be.

But you’re right; Catholics need to better understand the teachings: this is enormously valuable intellectual content that can greatly better our lives. More Catholics need to hear the Church, and the Church apparently needs to talk more about this stuff.

Contracepting Christians (and aborting Christians) have been an ongoing problem for the Catholic Church for 2000 years and the Protestant Churches for 400 years.

However, we have never been forced by supposedly Christian lawmakers to actively or financially participate.

So to answer your question, contracepting Catholics are helping destroy the Church from the inside out.

Yes, it happened because the media and radical anarchists gradually convinced people over a 40 year period that it’s OK, along with abortion.

When we go to the doctor, we go to get a broken bone fixed, to heal an injury or disease or to get treatment for something like cancer. Artificial contraception does not treat or heal or fix anything. It only prevents the natural functioning of the human body. That should not be paid for by the public. Once again, it is not health care.

Catholics are hurting the Catholic Church. The government buzzards feeding on the corpse of contracepting Catholics can’t be blamed for her sterile marriages. Lukewarm “Cultural Catholics” will be spewed from the mouth of Christ as He said. May we all be on fire with the love of Jesus Christ.

DEMONIC BONUS: Poor people are just not getting married, to oversimplify. That’s the young guy at the check-out line on Valentine’s Day buying a pot of tulips, a stuffed animal and a box of condoms. Jail for divorced dads who don’t pay child support is a marriage killer. Churches must have contingency funds to help out families in need; counseling and helpers to keep marriages together; and a means to provide wholesale goods and services to young families, like food clubs and insurance pools. May God’s will be done in us, all for His honor and glory.

As I have stated before in another thread, the Church is a haven for sinners. But there is a vast difference between those sinners who recognize their sin and struggle to conquer it with God’s help, and those sinners who refuse to recognize the sin. One must be in the second group to support universal contraceptive coverage. And, for a believing Catholic, to be forced to support a sin as wretched as this, a sin that has partnered with lust to spawn decades of decadence and left the state of marriage and the family in ruins, well, for some of us it is just too much. I come from a ruined family, and know many others from ruined families. For me, it’s not just the principle, it’s personal.
