Feeling nervous about the Fatima anniversary next year

I’m not talking about the apparition per se, although no one is bound to it. I’m talking more about the way many Catholics regard it. Such as this thread, for example, and 2017. Counting days and years towards some hypothetical end of the world scenario much like the SDA’s do.

Just live your Catholic faith and let the future take care of itself. Anyone who tries to count days and years is assured to be one thing: wrong. That’s whether you’re Catholic or SDA.
I’m counting down for the anniversary like i count the days until my birthday or Christmas. This anniversary is important…it does not mean the end of the world.

However, the messages Mary gave us at Fatima are STILL relevant today - prayer and fasting especially.

Yes.

And they ‘commemorated’ the anniversary right, just the other day.

Whatever that means.

Not only is next year the 100 anniversary of Fatima, but it’s also the 500 anniversary of the Protestant Revolt and the 300 anniversary of the masons.
e.
That as well. The second earthquake struck just before the commemoration. I can’t imagine that as a good sign.

I’m not surprised that some comments are dismissive and comparing Fatima to some fundamentalist end of the world prophecies. That’s their business, but if we do believe that Mary was correct and that her messages must be taken seriously, then more prayer and fasting is in order and it doesn’t mean we are crazy when thinking about it a bit more these days.

I never used to worry about Fatima, but the political and social turmoil seems to be reaching another peak, after a few decades of relative calm. Not sure what to expect next.

I think we can rest assured God will send a warning before any major destruction happens, but I have a sneaky feeling when this warning does come, many many people who consider themselves christian or catholic may be in for a huge wake up call.(myself included)

Too many folks trying to have the best of both worlds, indulging in the secular world, and being a christian, IMO, cant really have both, its one or the other.

Would you consider the earthquakes and the lightning hitting St Peter’s (twice in the last few years) as warnings before a major destruction? I personally do see them as warnings of something worse to happen, be it more natural disaster, civil inrest, or foreign invasion of Christian lands.

I don’t think that any of these things will be a wake up call. The modern world is so deeply atheistic that there is no sense of God, let alone the need to reconcile with Him. The pagans always made attemps to placate God’s anger in the ways they had. Christians used to take these signs from nature seriously. An eyewitness from the Norcia disaster said that minutes after the basilica collapsed one of the monks rushed onto the square, and urged the people to pray the rosary. She said that it was only the visitors who prayed - people who came to Norcia because of the monks. The locals just stood there and did not join in the rosary. This is what things have come to.

Malachi Martin in a recording last 1996 said that included in the 3rd Secret of Fatima is related about Kiev in Ukraine and Russia. Watch it in Youtube

Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof. Be not afraid. It is very likely in my opinion that 2017 will be, shall we say, eventful. But remember, God is in control. Frequent the sacraments. Try your best to resist temptation and stay free from sin I.e. Try to stay in the state of grace. Abandon yourself to the Lord’s will in as much as you are able. Go to Mass often. And confession when appropriate.

Pray the Rosary. Adore the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. God is good. All the time. He loves you. Stay close to Him and as St Pio said “pray, hope and don’t worry”.

Stay close to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to Our Lady in the Rosary.
And Pray, Pray Pray!!! God Bless, Memaw

We go through this every single year. “This year will be the beginning of the end.”

Jesus said plainly that we would not know the day or hour of the last days, that even Jesus Himself didn’t know. 🤷 So let’s quit worrying, speculating and causing pandemonium. 👍

He did say we’ll hear of more earthquakes. Whether that means there actually will be more earthquakes or we will hear more about them because of instant communication…who knows

To St. Faustina, did He not say He’s extending some time so that people will have final recourse to His Mercy before facing His Justice? (Correct me if I’m wrong or missing some details – again, private revelations, but the Church places great emphasis on this particular private revelation)

Anyways, it seems whatever gets us to pray and flee to Him more is not a bad thing…

Well the earthquake thing he said that these things would happen but it was not yet a sign of the end. So we may be in this “season” of life for many more years.

Yes I agree we should all be vigilant and pray and try and be/stay in a state of grace. But we must remember that too much worry can be as ineffective as not enough. 😉

Convert 99,

I don’t think Fatima is about the end of the world. Just a warning about our times.

Right, but others on this thread are viewing that way. I’m just trying to reassure them that this is most likely not the end. 😉

We must acknowledge that Fatima was the most dramatic event in the history of humanity, apart from events in the life of Our Lord. We MUST pay attention to it!

As for a warning, I would not count on it. If you don’t have enough warning just looking around you then you are blind. God will surely not continue to allow such things as cloning, genetic engineering, in vitro fert, nuclear bombs and the list goes on and on. We can’t even buy a loaf of bread in the US anymore without being assaulted by impure images. Its coming, people. I don’t know if its the end, but something is coming. You can count on that.

I have felt quite nervous about the Fatima anniversary for a while, but the earthquakes in Italy have made me even more convinced that things are going from bad to worse…I don’t think that it is a coincidence that all the churches in Norcia have collapsed.
Nervous? I long for the day when the entire world sees the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven! And, might I remind you of the Lord’s words to Saint Francis:
‘Francis, go and repair my house which, as you see, is falling into ruin.’
Saints are made in bad times much more than in good. Rather, what we see is the Divine call to begin building anew!

We’re not required to believe in Fatima even though it is a Vatican approved apparition, I see it more as a matter of private devotion and will say that it has enhanced my spiritual life quite a bit. Truly though we need to focus on living out our life as Christ commands, practicing liturgy according to the traditional standards of orthodoxy, studying the Bible and the lives of the saints, engaging in spiritual activities that help us grow such as private devotions like the Rosary, etc.

I have seen a lot of people get hung up on messages of apparitions like that of Fatima and Medjugore in particular. It can bring them to the point of fanaticism about said apparitions to where they actually lose sight of the faith practice itself. I tell people to find the way best suited for you to live a life in peace and repentance, much of the rest can work itself out through God’s Will 🙂

Im not sure on the earthquakes or lightning strikes, the spots where the earthquakes are happening, they are in highly active fault areas, so its not like its something really unusual, and I do think if God sends a warning, there will be NO questioning whether its a warning or not, everyone will just know, it would be something so unprecedented, there would be no other explanation for it.

Sure, but the church teaches that God has power over nature and communicates through it. This is what the church has always taught. It is not question of either/or, but rather and/and. Yes, both a natural phenomenon and God telling us something.

The lightening struck twice and both occasions - especially the first- were of significance. Why dismiss it as just a natural phenomenon? That is a very modern interpretation of how things work. A deist stance, not Catholic. If we don’t read anything into what happened, given the circumstances, then we are fools.

I agree with the rest of what you said, but I don’t think we should lump in Medjugorje with Fatima. I know people do, but it is not a good idea.
