Both…😃
 Some…do and some don’t.
I would think that the albs are okay for those for whom they were meant.😃

I would think that altar boys are okay for the position for which they were meant.😃 😃

Hope all is well with you young friend.

I hope one of your granddaughters wants to be some day…👍
Any one of them just may “want” to be. Perhaps by then Benedict XVI will have instructed the American bishops to come back in line. He does that by example now, as did JPII.👍

EDIT

I am pretty sure no one put a gun to his head, yet they insisted and pushed for quite a while all the while there were people disobeying the fact that Altar Girls were forbidden. Our beloved Pope was a very nice man and did bend a lot to please people.

I am certainly not confused feel free to read these links,

God Bless

Very helpful article. I’ve been to plenty of parishes where there are female altar servers and even in my ignorance, it didn’t seem right. I now attend a parish (I’m not Catholic yet but plan on attending RCIA there this year) that only has male altar servers and lectors.

At any rate…she became one to encourage her younger brother and he just loves being an Altar Server…👍

MY Comment:
Next thing, you will want the girls (or their parents) to have the “right” to chose to wear a collar too.

And it was not an accusation of you. It was a fear for what will/could come next.

You did say that you chose… and I believe that that is all that it is… your choice. Not a church directive, not a JPII endorsement, and certainly not “traditional” as you say your choice is.

.
nice way to spin things there MrS. Yes I purposely went against the JPII and the whole Catholic Church for purchasing these cassocks. Honey if you believe that and it makes you sleep better at night than great for you 👍

Why don’t you go and dig out the document that says girls can’t wear these btw, I’m curious to see it 😉

Welcome, Cathy…I’ll keep you in my prayers…I’m also a convert…since 1963…🙂

And she will be taking Latin and French next year in High School… I hope that doesn’t mean that she wants to become a “priestess”…😃
Well that is the next step you know…the next thing you know she will be wanting to the be Pope :juggle:

In my large parish there are more girl altar servers than boys and there are always openings for more volunteers. So we are not excluding boys in accepting the girls.
Here is the reason that some put forth. If you have girls, the boys will not wish to do it. I have heard it said that eventually you will only have girls or more girls than boys. I can hardly disagree with this argument as that is what I see happening.

I think that we should possibly end this conversation before we all get…:whacky: 😃
I think that already happen, why did I use the juggling guy? lol! I was in a hurry to go get my daughter 🙂

off topic alert ! :o

thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut… but I would bet that those who still hold to girl altar boys will

[1] not read it

[2] not understand it

[3] not agree with it

[4] or simply say “the times have changed”

Thank you stmaria but I saw nothing about who can wear what kind of cassocks. Also it’s a Q and A and the answers are given by Helen Hull Hitchcock who directs women for faith & family. I’m sorry unless I missed it I didn’t see actual documents and any real authority sited. Besides my question was what kind of cassocks as someone in here seem to have a problem with the ones I purchased.

But thank you anyway 👍

Personally I have nothing against female alter servers and see this discussion as ludicrous. But have researched it and it states in
adoremus.org/InaestimabileDonum.html
  1. There are, of course, various roles that women can perform in the liturgical assembly: these include reading the Word of God and proclaiming the intentions of the Prayer of the Faithful. Women are not, however, permitted to act as altar servers.(27)
So based on this document female alter servers are out. 😦

Do you think we should encourage female altar servers? What is the reason for allowing female altar servers in the first place? In my diocese, female altar servers are not allowed, so I’m just curious.

I’m not trying to start a debate here, I just want to know. 🙂

Peace,
Vincent
maybe because Jesus found men and women to be on equal plains. Just a thought.😃

And here is the updated version:
ad2000.com.au/articles/2004/may2004p3_1607.html
  • Male altar servers remain the norm and are a source of priestly vocations, but the diocesan Bishop may permit female servers.

Why are females wearing clerical garb – cassock and surplice?:bigyikes:
Why are those girls wearing Male Clothing?

They are wearing clerical GARB!!! Cassocks and surplices.

Is that photo a Joke? Or is there a parish out there that encourages cross-dressing?

Actually, in my parish in Indonesia, there are more girl altar servers and often time it’s all girl altar servers during mass. a reason is because it’s easier to get girls to serve than the boys.

You know, easier to get girls to go to Church than the boys. So most parents will encourage the girls to be altar servers while the boys will stay at home. The parents will be happy because no distraction during mass (no boys grumbling) and the children will also be happy.
