The tone of this thread is soooo much different than those where a wife is writing about her husband masturbating. In those threads people are quick to point out that he is committing adultery. They confirm that she has a right to feel hurt. The couple is always encouraged to talk to their priest. Sexual addiction is part of the topic. Masturbation takes a huge toll on the marriage relationship.

WHY?

Isn’t it a grave matter for either gender? Isn’t she at risk of ruining their marriage and losing her soul?

I assume it is because each gender searches for different things in it.
A man usually does not masturbate without images, even if only mental, and it is more connected to a physical relief while for women it is more connected to the emotional side and can even be without any conscious desire for desire outside (other than her husband).

That is a very personal question and I don’t think the OP should feel obligated to answer, in spite of the fact that he started a thread on a very private topic and mentioned things I would never discuss in public.

The place to discuss the issue he is dealing with is with a priest; either in the confessional, or through spiritual direction or simply asking a priest for advice on a marital problem.

There’s also lots of assumption here that a mortal sin is going on. It may or may not be mortal depending on the circumstances. Again, best discussed in the confessional by the penitent herself and the priest.

You are right BUT it is not out of line to suggest that they reexamine their need to abstain. As a former NFP teacher I can tell you that sometimes couples need to consider their fertility in all aspects especially when postponing is causing one to sin. And especially since a lot of the time it is the woman’s sex drive that is given more weight on when it is time to have a baby!

I’m not saying they don’t have a reason to abstain but rather perhaps they need to revisit this issue. Actually most couples practicing NFP should communicate monthly on discerning life.

Why are some trying to find excusing oneself from the sin of masturbating? Masturbating is indulging in sexual pleasure without any love towards God’s plan and one’s partner. It is self indulgence and as such it is a sin.

Nocturnal emissions are not sinful in any way. You have no control over your dreams, and thus culpability is out of the equation, which is needed in order to make a sin mortal. Masturbation IS mortally sinful, especially since you have culpability. I urge you to stop immediately and go to confession, for your eternal soul’s stake. The pleasure of masturbation is a few minutes, the agony of hell lasts an eternity. The sacrifice of fighting off the temptation to masturbate lasts for only a little while; the beauty and perfect happiness of heaven lasts eternally.

Masturbation is a normal and healthy part of sexuality. If you try to make her feel guilty about it she most likely will resent you for it.

Nonsense. That is modernist claptrap, because modernists are basically animals. Animals in that they associate themselves completely with their bodies, and therefore believe their bodies must always be satisfied.

A Christian, Protestant, Catholic or Orthodox, should try to make their body their slave.
