Negative consequences need to be dealt with in society but unfortunately the radical feminists are on a slippery slope and society is playing right along
.

Well thats the thing. It has become so mainstreamed, that not much can be done. The radicals are nothing anymore, it is the ones who “may not seem as quite so negative” that are continuing it. AND, it is hurting the Church as well. As I say, feminism and Liberalism, go hand in hand.
Some of your negative consequences I may not seem as quite so negative but oh well…what can ya do 😛
You don’t want to know.
If you still have a problem with that statement then i’m not sure what else to say except we each have our own view points and I have enjoyed having a lively debate with you and neat!
I refuse to meet in the middle on this. But I have enjoed the debate as well.

See girls…men are not all wife beating, women degrading, overly dominate pigs…I find that when we let them be who they naturally are inclined to be…it is far more rewarding and sure makes relationships a whole lot easier!
Now fetch me a turkey pot pie! lol
because I trust him enough to know that he’s not going to lead me where I don’t want to be!!
The kitchen??? Oh no! Say it aint so!

I’m with you, Ed, on your most recent post. Is there anyone who agrees with you/what you’re saying?😃

Ok Leftdestroyer and Seeking Catholic

You guys seem to be the main male voices in this discussion arguing against the women and how they aren’t considering the damages done by feminism.
Exactly why would they consider the “damages done by feminism” when feminism benefits them? I’m just warning you gals, you can’t continue to have your cake and eat it too forever.
If you don’t mind…Outline how you would like women to be.
Basically, I want them simply to be honest people of integrity and not hypocrites, demanding “equality” when it suits them and yet reverting to traditional privileges when that suits them.
I say a woman should hold a job, you guys argue with that but you also argue against a woman mooching money off of a man…so what is the deal?
Nowhere did I say a woman shouldn’t hold a job, or that she should for that matter. I DID say that if a woman demands “equal rights” to a job then she also assumes “equal responsibility” to support the family. No all of a sudden waxing eloquent about “traditional male responsibility” when things get rough, or she decides she’d like a little more time with the children.
Are there any positive effects of feminism for women/men?
There are lots of benefits and goodies for women. Whether all that has a positive effect on them as individuals is rather debatable. Feminism is nothing but an unmitigated nightmare for men, demeaning and feminizing them. It’s well past time for men to revolt and such revolution is on its way.
Or do you prefer the victorian society where women are covered from neck to toe, and stay at home to have as many children as possible, are not allowed to say no to their husbands if they don’t feel like sex due to illness or just lack of interest, and aren’t allowed to leave the house without male escorts. Also they aren’t even allowed to vote!
Nothing like a false dichotomy. Do you prefer a victorian society, or a highly feminist/matriarchal society with public goddess worship. BTW you aren’t allowed to say no to your husband for just lack of interest. If you think you are then you need to GROW UP and realize that we all need to do things at certain times we don’t feel like it. Or else not complain when he stays up until all hours at bars because he just doesn’t feel like coming home, and not complain when the mortgage isn’t paid because he just doesn’t feel like working at a job he doesn’t want.
Come on guys…what would YOUR ideal woman be. I am very curious b/c I want to understand both of you better. and also how would you like society to be in your perfect world in regard to rape laws or whatever laws you seem to have problems with!
Part of the wisdom of men (yes, the Founding Fathers were all men, and no sense denying it) in setting up our society this way is the realization that we don’t have a perfect world, and can’t have a perfect world. The only questions are what we deem more important than other things. We deem freedom more important than even life. (Give me liberty, or give me death). We deem freedom from government interference more important than all the things government could supposedly protect us from. We do not deem exercise of government self-legitimating. And so on. So we find it better that a hundred guilty people go free than that one innocent person is convicted; we demand the accused have rights and that the state prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. Or we did, before feminism came on the scene.

I can understand that

I don’t like hypocrites myself…and if I have a job I would feel equally responsible in contributing to household matters. We already discussed the divorce issue and I’m still trying to sort that one out so bear with me.

He said it wouldn’t be enjoyable for him if I wasn’t also enjoying it. Sex is supposed to show your love for one another but it isn’t the only way to show that.I think that aspect of our marriage will work out just fine lol and lucky for me he doesn’t go out to bars and is anal about keeping up with the finances as am I.

I understand that to a degree…I am all for the constitution however I’m not sure how to handle the whole rape situation. Are you saying instead of sacrificing the freedom of a few men/women who were falsely accused of rape and protecting the women/children/men who are raped we should protect the few men/women who might be falsely accused at the expense of the victims who have actually been raped? If you aren’t saying that then please correct me b/c I find that hard to believe that you are. There has to be some common ground that we can protect rape victims and also respect the rights of the falsely accused. I luckily have not been raped…but I have been in a situation where it has almost happened before someone else came to my rescue. I refused to have sex with my boyfriend b/c it wasn’t right…he didn’t share my beliefs and decided to take me for himself regardless of my beliefs. I don’t think I could have born it if I had been, and then had no way to punish the guy who did it to me without being worried about HIS rights. He violated mine! Shouldn’t he be punished?

Anyway I thank you for taking the time to lay it out for me.

PffthHAAAHAAAHAAHAHA…are you serious? are you serious? Seriously? HA…Oh mannn. Well I guess that may have been true in SOME circles in certain exclusive majority groups. Oh yes yes freedom We all know how much George Washington and Thomas Jefferson valued FREEDOM. Yes yes I’m sure all those lovely black people who worked for them for no money were free to come and go as they pleased. wonderful…absolutely wonderful. HA you people make me laugh. You fail to mention that they were all rich white property owning men. such ignorance of history. Yes yes such morally upstanding men were our founding fathers. After all …they were only black slaves!!! If they really believed freedom was more important than life, why were so many people oppressed and treated like animals for so long?
I really can’t think of any reason other than a) they were stupid
or b) they were evil. Which was it? As I recall Britain abolished slavery in 1834 and we waited until 1863-65. Were things really so wonderful back then? really truly absolutely? Honestly? You really believe that? I guess it’s easy to pick and choose the tiny little parts that were good…for SOME people. For me, it would have been hell. Yes hell. If I had lived back then I would have rather been killed off in a Nat Turner raid than live under the oppressive rule of the “founding fathers” What a joke. You must be joking.

You all want to know what we are like? Go rent Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.
I woke up the other day some years after watching part of that movie with a scene from it running through my mind. It was so bad I had been dreaming I was telling someone how nauseating it was. I saw around a half-hour of it. If that’s your life, well, I’m glad we’re all free to live as we want and I don’t have to live someone else’s life. If a man courted me talking to me like that he’d be shot down so fast he’d leave a crater in the floor.

No we forgot nothing. It is obvious that you are a Liberal, because that is one of the favorite lines of a Liberal, that our nartions Fathers were jerkweeds who where hypocrites. "30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

It is soooooo easy to judge the past, after it has already happened. And it is even easier to rip on what was considered normal 232 years ago, compared to today.

How arrogant. Without them, you would not be able to say what you are saying RIGHT NOW! YOU ARROGANT …Ever heard of indentured servants? Ever find out how an all black slave population came to be?

Sounds to me that you would fit in better at Rev. Wright’s Church. And from what I hear, Thomas Jefferson treated his slave, quite well. Especially the female ones. Washington eventually freed his slaves.

Well sure, it is no suprise that a manly man would not be attractive to a manly woman.

If a person is a slave they aren’t being treated well. There is no such things as a good slave master. Slavery is evil…period.
And number two. my ancestors were here first. Remember all those people that used to live here? If you can use that “it was normal” excuse then I’m preeettty sure that same arguement applies to abortion. And yeah they were hypocrites. I don’t put the founding fathers on a pedestal. They had nothing to do with me. I’d either still Be in Africa or I’d still be here on my land.
What do you mean I wouldn’t be able to say what I want to? Are you saying they were so magical that they entrusted us with the power of speech? Again. deifying a simple man. I’d still say what I wanted granted probably not in English. Don’t look back at the past with such rose colored glasses. The world was a horrid place. Last time I checked the Iriquois had their own constitution. And BTW american black people can’t really be conseravatives. Most of us don’t see the world through the eyes of priveledge. we see it through the lens of suffering and oppression. It would be impossible for me to ever think like you. I see poverty, I see death, I see cosumerism, materialism, classism, racism, disease, hopelessness, misogyny. We always look at the otherside of the message that the mainstream media is trying to convey to us or about us. Sorry I don’t buy your happy slave BS.
Last time I checked…Thomas Jefferson was boinking his slaves. That’s why he took such “good care” of them. You are more than welcome to hop in that time machine and go backwards. I prefer to go forward taking into consideration that unlike you, I don’t want us to be doomed to repeat our wretched past. That’s the only reason I read history, to learn what NOT to do. I do not want to live in a world where I have to wear what men tell me to wear, marry someone in order to survive, Have my intelligence questioned simply because of my sex OR my skin color.
Sure I’m judging the past but in a more realistic modern perspective. Just because they did things that way back then does not make it excusable. Not by a long shot. He’s your hero, not mine. We don’t choose where we are born, when we are born, how we are born, or what sex we are. What do choose is what to do with our lives. I always thought it was such a wonderful twist of fate that Benjamin Franklin a non president ended up on the 100 dollar bill. He was deeply against slavery but also wrote many letters about how women should be equal to men. If i’m a Liberal, so Is Benjamin Franklin. But I no longer find that title offensive as it seems those who keep hurling it at me are eurocentristic, classistic, and just plain in the dark about the world and the depths of suffering brought on by human oppression. I don’t have the ability to explain that in words just how it feels to see the world like I do. You see al these negatives brought on by feminism. But in doing that you are fooling yourself into beliving that the worlds problems are so simple that things can be so easily fixed by throwing one “ism” out the window. That’s no different than an atheist who thinks the world will suddenly drammatically be better if religion were simply eliminated. It doesn’t work that way. do you realize how optimistic and unrealistic that is? even when slavery was abolished, that didn’t compltely fix the problem. As racism did not stop existing. Even though women thought abortion on demmand was going to improve their lives, it was an unrealistic assumption. It didn’t fix rape, incest, or poverty. You have to look at what needs to be improved. Always. You can’t simply revert back to how things were and rest on your laurels. The cheese is always moving. It’s a constant process. I by no means think that just because of feminism, everything is perfect. I’m fairly perfectionstic and there will always be improvemments to be made. The only Father that deserves the reverence you give to the “founding fathers” is God. I don’t worship the constitution like it is some sort of god. The constitution was written by men and ergo deeply fallible. People are no more sinful now then they were then. Politicians supported slavery then like politicians support abortion now. Everyone does it…It’s normal! So what? It’s still evil. I don’t care if it’s “normal”. Abortion is normal but it’s still evil right?

Dale_M:
Could you give a citation or two of when the Church has condemned feminism?
Pius XI in his Encyclical Casti connubii
Thank you for this. Considering the encyclical’s length it will take some time to read it, and probably longer to digest it.
And of course HUman Vitae and also the churches condemnation of Modernism, which is a component of feminism.
hmmm… I am not sure of the feminism = Modernism, but I guess I will tackle Humanae Vitae.
The pope approved the document, titled “Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and the World.”
This was of readable length! Its not really a condemnation of feminism, although it does begin and end with a condemnation of what I would call radical feminism. The letter repeatedly (and rightfully) condemns setting men and women against one another. But I don’t think feminism advocates such a position.

A fundamental contention of the letter, however, is that all men have an fixed male nature, and all women have an fixed female nature. This goes against some of the fundamental beliefs with which I grew up.

I will have to pray about this contention, and spend a lot of time in reflection. This seems important to my faith. The differences and the complement of male nature and female nature are cited in the letter as the basis for multiple Church teachings - for example, the male priesthood, the sinfulness of homosexuality, the special nature of male and female marriage (as opposed to gay marriage).

As I have gotten older, I have increasingly been impressed by the diversity, flexibility, and even the malleability, of humans. This has, at the same time, decreased the strength of my belief in natural law. The issue of an immutable male nature and female nature goes directly to that matter, and I will have to give it much thought and prayer.

😦

Oh, incidentally, the letter supports the important role of women (with their nurturing and love of other) in the workplace:
Whenever these fundamental experiences are lacking, society as a whole suffers violence and becomes in turn the progenitor of more violence. It means also that women should be present in the world of work and in the organization of society, and that women should have access to positions of responsibility which allow them to inspire the policies of nations and to promote innovative solutions to economic and social problems.

Yeah, a medal. The ones I knew, never were raped, but brought it up for no real reason except to hear: Oh yeah, wow. Sorry, you wanna talk about it? Did you know the guy? Were you drunk?
Wow-all the evil women in the world-you really have a mighty low opinion of women. If some do stupid **** like that are all women suspect? Are all guilty- apparently so in your eye. I have not seen one iota of compassion from you or your postings- must be lousy to be this angry all the time.😛 Peace

No, I admit I would not want goddess worship.
Then lay off the silly false dichotomies and let’s have a reasonable discussion.
After I read this other statement about sex I asked my fiance who happens to be in the other room what he thought and he disagrees with my being immature for my thinking its ok to say no if I don’t want to.
Whereas I’m sure you’ll insist it’s immature for HIM to skip anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine’s day, etc., if HE doesn’t want to. Then you’ll claim he’s “ignoring” you and wax eloquently about how a husband should love his wife. Marriage does not always center around the desires of the woman. And I’m quite sick and tired of those (very, very many) who think it does.
That is exactly what I am saying. Are you now saying that it is worth it to falsely convict a few men of rape if it results in better protection for women? If so, you are a totalitarian statist and a “womenfirster”. You seem to think the crime of false accusation pales in comparison to that of rape. It does not. It can send a man to prison where he, in all likelihood, will himself be raped. Where’s your concern for them, I would like to know.

Either one has concern for justice for all, or he in reality has concern for justice for no one. Either one has compassion for all, or he in reality has compassion for no one.
There has to be some common ground that we can protect rape victims and also respect the rights of the falsely accused.
And that’s what standard criminal law and procedure is supposed to do. That’s why we have trial by jury, proof beyond reasonable doubt, and the right to confront witnesses.
I don’t think I could have born it if I had been, and then had no way to punish the guy who did it to me without being worried about HIS rights. He violated mine! Shouldn’t he be punished?
Of course he should be. But, if it turns out you made up the story for revenge or other reasons, then you’re the one who is the violator of rights and who should be punished. You seem to think false accusations are a trivial matter. They are not. What about MY rights to MY reputation? Ever think about that?

Oh, incidentally, the letter supports the important role of women (with their nurturing and love of other) in the workplace:
Yeah, it says some other things as well. It clearly believes in the moral and spiritual superiority of women.
13.Among the fundamental values linked to women’s actual lives is what has been called a “capacity for the other”. Although a certain type of feminist rhetoric makes demands “for ourselves”, women preserve the deep intuition of the goodness in their lives of those actions which elicit life, and contribute to the growth and protection of the other.
This intuition is linked to women’s physical capacity to give life. Whether lived out or remaining potential, this capacity is a reality that structures the female personality in a profound way. It allows her to acquire maturity very quickly, and gives a sense of the seriousness of life and of its responsibilities. A sense and a respect for what is concrete develop in her, opposed to abstractions which are so often fatal for the existence of individuals and society. It is women, in the end, who even in very desperate situations, as attested by history past and present, possess a singular capacity to persevere in adversity, to keep life going even in extreme situations, to hold tenaciously to the future, and finally to remember with tears the value of every human life.
Yeah, I’m sure Britney Spears really developed maturity and a sense of the seriousness of life and its responsibilities very quickly. It’s not that feminine values are so much superior. It’s that the Church has decided to value them as such. This supports my claim that the Church is sexist, biased in favor of women.

Marriage does not always center around the desires of the woman. And I’m quite sick and tired of those (very, very many) who think it does.
AMEN 👍 Some women have gotten really goofy! Like they are princesses and all that matters is them. If I were a man, I would not put up with it, nor would I even look twice at one of these gals. In my business (female barber) it makes me sick to hear how men are treated by their wives and girlfriends. They act like they are whipped puppies, but if they don’t comply, their lives will be even worse. What a big mistake. Nothing makes a woman nastier that a weak-acting man, IMO. When men lovingly take charge, they will get the respect they deserve and things will get back in the proper order. Please men, don’t let women take over!

Wow-all the evil women in the world-you really have a mighty low opinion of women. If some do stupid **** like that are all women suspect? Are all guilty- apparently so in your eye. I have not seen one iota of compassion from you or your postings- must be lousy to be this angry all the time.😛 Peace
Its funny you should say that cause I haven’t seen one compassionate post from you either throughout this thread. I think you have shown yourself to be quite angry and frustrated…which, sadly, is what the feminist movement encourages.

And for your information, he’s not angry all the time, in fact, he’s one of the most compassionate and sincere men that I have ever met…he is, however, disgusted at the way gender roles have been confused and the way the sanctity of the family has been attacked and he’s not the only one!

I too, am upset by the constant and deliberate berating of men, the degrading of the family and the insistence that women MUST be like men or they are somehow “weak and shallow”.

As Catholics, we have the perfect example of family and the roles each man and woman should play in the Holy Family…but sadly, it appears that all too many Catholics, are willing to instead conform to the family as envisioned by society, rather than following the beautiful example provided by God for us!

👍

I have five brothers…I know exactly what you are talking about…sadly, one of my brother’s who’s been married for 25 years already, is just beginning to learn this lesson! For far too long, he’s been the “sweet and nice” guy, literally waiting on his wife hand and foot, doing everything for her, including making sure that every time she gets into her car…the gas tank is filled!

He does all the cooking, the cleaning and the laundry…when the little ones wake during the night, he’s the one that gets up with them…in addition, he works a fulltime job, while she stays at home…and to top it all off, he is a diabetic, who has to wear an insulin pump 24/7.

Instead of appreciating all that he does…she treats him as if its expected and she does little to nothing for him. She’s spoiled, arrogant and highly opinionated. She does not respect him, for that matter, anyone else…because she is a product of the “I am woman, hear me roar” generation.

And Seeking Catholic

My fiance is not whipped…I cook supper for him, surprise him with things he likes, whenever he has had a bad day at work or just in general I will do little things like massage his shoulders etc., I wash his clothes for him and I am always very affectionate and loving. We have yet to get into an argument b/c we are very open and honest with one another. I’m sure when we are married and living together an argument is bound to happen, but I know we are mature enough to work out the details. My only issue is that just b/c I don’t feel like having sex every single time he does isn’t a crime. I have a right to say no! My fiance understands that I have a medical condition that makes it difficult for me and b/c he loves me he isn’t going to hold that against me! I’m not using physical affection to manipulate him or degrade him but to show my love for him. Besides he knows if I am unable to be affectionate when he wants to, I always make up for it in other ways, like I mentioned earlier. I am aware of his needs and I am not some fanatical woman who wants control.

My fiance in turn does things for me b/c he loves me. It is not a woman centered relationship, it is a love centered relationship…a give and take relationship. And I’m so glad my fiance isn’t like Seeking Catholic who thinks that if a woman doesn’t want to be at her husbands beck and call sexually he has a right to forget everything else that is important. We have developed a loving, trusting, give and take relationship that doesn’t revolve around sex! So when we get married i don’t think it will be that big of an issue.
