Feminist formula makes Baptism invalid, Vatican rules

For the clarification to come down indicates that there were actual violations! As another poster has stated, it’s astonishing that the Vatican would even have to rule on this situation. I cannot even begin to imagine a Priest so out of touch with the Church as to Baptize using this “feminist formula.”

It probably has more to do with whether or not to recognize Methodist and Episcopalian baptisms (which have been using the “feminist” forumula since the early 1980s) when adults are coming in to RCIA.

National Catholic Reporter actually wrote that he opposed it in the liturgy:

This is not hard to believe as the “Reporter” has been out of touch with much Church teaching for a while now. They should not be confused with the National Catholic Register which is generally much more in-line with Rome.

Liturgical Law requires that the same person who recites the Trinitarian forumual is the one who pours or immerses.

If the priest said the formula, while the parents immersed, the Baptism is most likely invalid.

It is. In the past year a lot of kids in a parish in Canada had to be “rebaptized” because the priest, in an effort to involve the parents, had had them pour the water while he said the words. The bishop took great pains to explain through the media why these baptisms weren’t valid. The public, unfortunately, weren’t inclined to listen and thought the whole thing was a ridiculous waste of time.

Re previous post. I was unable to find a reference to the case last year but did find this other case dating back to 2003.

~295 children who had been baptized by a lay person, mandated by the bishop, in a parish in the province of Quebec had to be rebaptized because in each case the woman who ‘baptized’ them spoke the words but had the dad pour the water.

If it is true that there is a different RCC out here vs. back east - I think I want to move (but what about my family)?

Nonsense! It is the same church worldwide. However, you must examine each priest carefully for their obedience to the magisterium. Some are still products of the radical and heretical beliefs of the 60s and 70s. Listen to the wording used a mass and in the Sacraments. If they vary from the approved format, I would take it up with them. If they appear nonchalant to your legitimate concern, find an orthodox priest and parish.

This all stems from disobedience.
