From the Sunbury PA Daily Item:

Although state officials estimate that thousands of residents of the Central Susquehanna Valley lack valid identification under the new state Voter ID law, fewer than 60 in three Valley counties have been issued secure identification cards, according to state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jan McKnight.

As of Tuesday, according to McKnight, the IDs and counties are as follows: Northumberland, 42; Montour, 5; and Union, 10.

The free IDs are part of the state’s push to make sure registered voters are able to cast ballots on the heels of the March voter ID law, McKnight said.

However, there has been some confusion about the ID program, McKnight said. In order to qualify for a free ID — the cards normally cost $13.50 — customers must be registered to vote and lack another valid form of ID, McKnight said.

“In some cases people aren’t realizing they already have an ID for voting purposes,” she said.
Of course, this program is a horrible one. Imagine: allowing people to get free identification so they could vote. Horrible. Racist. Misogynistic. Ageist.

Exactly. It shows how few people would even be “disenfranchised.” I mean who doesn’t have an id now a days? And even without the free id, how many of those 60 people IN THE ENTIRE STATE wouldn’t have been able to cough up the 13.50?

If you read more carefully, the article applies to only three counties, and says that thousands who would be eligible have not yet applied. There are 67 counties in PA.

I can virtually assure you there will be a great deal of civil disobedience on this one in PA. No poll worker who has known someone for years is going to turn them away for lack of state id.

No one is complaining that the requirement to register disenfranchises people. So, why does requiring an id? You have to go somewhere to register; you have to go somewhere to get an id; you have to go somewhere to vote. Same thing.

I will be willing to bet that many of those who ACORN registered will not be willing to get proper ID, because they are also on the death register or have a felony conviction…
Several States, including Ohio,
Texas, and Virginia are prosecuting numerous people for voting fraud in the 2008 Presidential election. I haven’t heard of Pennsylvania doing this though. Maybe such regisrants know better than to try!
For all their sanctominius prostestations, the Democrats are masters of voting fraud! Never forget that Boss Tweed and Tamany Hall were Democrats, as well as the Chicago Machine…and historically, which was the party behind segregation in the South?
And today, along with the incumbant President, they are the all time masters of spin.
Josef Goebels said “If you tell a lie often enough, it soon will become the truth”.
Oh, the hipocracy of it all!

You have to renew your driver’s license, your nurse’s license, your business license, and your license license every few years, so why not your voter registration? That way, they can automatically purge the rolls of the dead and those who moved away. When you re-register, they can take your picture and make an ID, just like your driver’s license. Problem solved.

So, they will break the law simply because they can personally vouch for someone Mmmmmmm - sounds like Chicago politics to me.

Sounds like small town politics to me. No one here is going to turn away old Mrs. Smith because she doesn’t have an id. They’ve known people like that for decades and would not be able to show their face if they did such a thing.
Democrat or Republican.

So much for honesty. If they are that concerned, simply help the affected folks gather appropriate ID. Small town or not, the law is the law. I would not do it. I would apologize to my friends or neighbors, but decline to allow them to vote. I’m a lawyer who abides by his oath as an officer of the court. I do not break the law, small town or not. Sorry Miss Lillian, but you have to get ID.

I would turn away anyone without a valid state issued ID if that were the law…even if it were my own mother.

Well, that makes one,

Exactly! I would turn away my mom. If she got angry or something, it would be as simple as “Mom, if I let you do that, we’d both be breaking the law.”

Not to derail the tread, but voter demands can get unreasonable at times, like demanding to be responsibility free when it comes to casting a ballot.

My supervisor volunteered to work the polls on election day in 2000. He told us of a couple who came in and voted, after which they got to discussing who they voted for. The lady realized she had voted the wrong way on one office. She demanded to be allowed to vote again!!! My boss told her that even if he could open the locked box with the cast votes, there was no way he could find the one she cast; so no, she couldn’t vote again. She became quite indignant.

For the record, in South Africa, one has to have a valid ID book in order to be able to vote. It is not possible to vote without one. SA is a far poorer country than USA and the poor here are usually poorer than your poor. They are able to obtain their ID books which are also made free of charge but the queues are incredibly long. So when I read about the uproar about the requirement for free ID to vote and the uproar against it, I am really surprised.

If you realize that here in the U.S. the claimed “disenfranchisement of the poor” is a lame excuse in an attempt to enfranchise the unqualified, it is no surprise at all. Liberals/Leftists know that they don’t get to govern if they don’t win, so winning is everything.

“Leftists think that utopia can be coerced into existence – so no dishonesty or brutality is beyond them in pursuit of that ‘noble’ goal.” – Dr. Jon Jay Ray
