Funny too how there is so much effort to discredit the authors/signers of this document…and so little attempt to engage the ARGUMENTS they make.

I didn’t accuse the writer of lying. I said it is lying to add someone’s name to something without their permission, thereby making it look like they agree.
It’s deceitful.
What would you call it?

They have discredited themselves by lying about signatories.
If they can’t be honest about that, why should I take anything they say with any seriousness?

The world of the internet allows for many errors that can result in exactly what happened here. Accusing the authors (there were multiple) of the lying is a pretty hasty conclusion to reach. Rash judgment…

There has been no explanation of how this happened. If it were me, I would have been the first person to stand up and admit the error. I have not seen that happen.
Maybe I missed it. But, this is now a black mark upon the whole topic as far as I am concerned. I believe that this division that were are seeing in our Church, and our country is of the Devil. Sometimes we get so entrenched in our own view, that we fail to even consider something different.
No growth comes from attitudes like this, from any side. Life is not black & white, either/or; it is shades of grey and both/and.
Pope Francis has changed zero doctrine/dogma. He is not spreading heresies. He is just asking that we look at things with the same mercy that Jesus did, and not be bound by laws made for men.

Here we go again. Francis and “mercy”. With the implicit comment on every pope before him. Only now, apparently, is the Church being merciful.

No objectivity; all relativity. No truth that is ageless and eternal; everything up for grabs.

But as for merciful…tell that to the people fired or in fear because of how this pontificate responds to criticism.

I implied nothing. The Church is, and always has been, about mercy, but has also always been filled with people who put the law above love. A direct contradiction of what Jesus taught

Let us all try not to criticize the other persons on the thread. This thread raises some issues:
  1. Maybe that man’s “signature” was faked by someone else. If so, it could have been done by someone who is Pro Filial, or more likely by someone who is anti-Filial (and wanted to undermine the credibility).
  2. It could have been a misunderstanding. That person might said something to someone that lead them to believe they were on board with the Filial, but in actuality they never intended to sign it. (The fact that certain persons signed it would certainly lead me to not sign it, if I were qualified, which I am not). But I question how they reached the qualification standard: “Masters, or PhD in Theology? Parish pastor for 20 years standing?” Or what? Usually for things like this, they stipulate. Some of the signers raise questions in terms of ecclesial orthodoxy, or what “standard” they could possibly have met.
  3. The fact that perhaps this Filial has some questionable signers does not mean something like this is not needed. If another document were more carefully produced, focusing not so much on so called “heresy” but rather prudence (or lack of it) that might be useful. There would need to be screening of signers: no signer who did not support Pope Benedict or St. JP II 100% would be considered.

I think it’s number 1. And more likely that someone was trying to discredit the correction by adding a name to it of someone who didn’t wish their name to be added so that this could happen.
