The president of the Filipino bishops’ conference criticized Catholics who reject Church moral teachings, in his Easter message.

I am a Catholic but kill drug addicts, no. Bishop is correct.
I am a Catholic but pro-death penalty is NOT incompatible. Bishop is incorrect. It is morally permissible for a Catholic to in favour (or against) the death penalty.

That said, it’s a terrible idea to have the death penalty revived in a country like the Philippines.

Interesting that he chastises Catholics who reject moral teachings of the Church but the only example he cites is one that is not a moral teaching of the Church. The death penalty may have no place in society as it is currently practiced, but one can be a faithful Catholic and still believe that it is morally permissible.

The archbishop is referring to President Duterte and his death squads that go around executing drug attics and petty thieves on the streets, some of whom are children. Rather than name the President directly, the archbishop is criticizing those Catholics who support him.

That’s because President Duterte has abandoned Catholicism, the faith of his parents. He will just give the Archbishop the dirty finger if he is called out.

But I palm my face on the Archbishop’s opinion on death penalty.
