Finally, Catholic Answers comes clean with the mormon threat ownership.

Any religion on this earth of ours can be made to look foolish and I would include the catholic faith too. No religion is immune to be looking foolish.

But to openly attempt to discredit a faith is not very good. First, if all christian faiths would practice bashing, there would not be a christ like bone in anyone’s body. Second, it does not create a harmonious world, just the opposite. And third, it is not holy.

But it is crusade like and we all know what happened in the crusades…not much.
Why me,
Since zerinus is not here, I will ask you. Has Catholic Answers put any incorrect information in its Mormon stuff? Are the statements about your faith correct, incorrect, or somewhere in the middle?

I have to disagree strongly here. first of all the LDS religion is BASED on discrediting all other churches. that’s what the “great apostasy” IS! We must denounce false doctrine and thus we WILL discredit other religions. I believe Satanism is bad, Islam wrong, paganism wrong too. do you? Read the New testament. it’s full of “bashing”. wrong teachings are corrected sternly and those who promote them denounced. JS does this in the D&C with other mormons. Christ went into the synagogues and even the Temple and “bashed” the pharisees and saduccees in order to ensure the people had the correct teachings. we don’t have a harmonious world. we won’t get one until Christ comes and makes it that way. allowing or worse assisting in the proliferation of false doctrine and false prophets is wrong and that won’t produce harmony either. it seemed holy when Christ did it! mormons think it holy when JS and BY and other “prophets” did it. Or are you okay with the FLDS? the crusades… yes let’s throw out emotionally charged terms that you appear to be unfamiliar with. Actually quite alot happened with the crusades. what makes you think they were so uneventful?

You seem determined to set-up the debate as if LDS and the CC are enemies. I think that LDS beliefs are a little off. 🙂 And I’m sure that you, as a LDS member, believe that Catholic beliefs are a little off. That makes sense, since many of the beliefs conflict.

I’m looking for respectful debate. I hope you’ll continue to post your opinions, but in a less “let’s fight, fool” manner.

BTW, It’s one thing to complain about anti-LDS rhetoric you find here, were debate is expected. At least we’re not harrassing you by ringing your doorbell. 🙂 Anit-this-or-that has a special annoyance factor when it’s brought to your own door, and always when you’re busy besides. 🙂

I’m new here, but FWIW, both sides could stand to be a little more respectful. 🤷
Zakuska is busy on mormonapologetics. Perhaps I will notify him to come on over again. But Z will return. He has some good arguments to keep you guys honest. 🙂

The Catholic Church’s practices and beliefs are open to public scrutiny. Anyone can look at them and freely decide whether the Church’s beliefs are foolish. Many people do reject the Church’s beliefs. The Church’s response is not to hide those practices and beliefs from public view, and lie by omission to bring people into the fold.
But to openly attempt to discredit a faith is not very good.
Discredit? It’s simply an attempt to ensure that people have the information they’re entitled to before making a life-altering decision. I find it odd that such a committed Mormon apologist as yourself equates the open dissemination of your beliefs to the discrediting of your beliefs.
But it is crusade like and we all know what happened in the crusades…not much.
Yes - they were reactions to Muslim aggression, for the most part. And not at all like the actions of a group of misogynistic con-men in their horrific slaughter of innocent men, women and children who were simply trying to pass through the Mormon theocracy of Utah in search of a better life elsewhere.

You are overreacting. This CA booklet is not an attack on the LDS church, rather it is a defensive act to educate Catholics to defend themselves against LDS proselytizing. There is nothing in the material that makes a false statement about your church. If the LDS church published a booklet about the Catholic faith for its members I don’t think any Catholic would mind at all, in fact I wish they would! Of course to publish a falsehood or lie would be wrong in any case. So why don’t you read the document and tell us if there is any untruth in it.

An Irishman walks into his local pub and orders three pints of Guinness and sips them one at a time until they’re done, then he turns to the bartender and orders three more.

The bartender says “you know if you order them one at a time they won’t go flat”…

The Irishman says “I have one brother in the states and one in Australia and we promised each other that when we order a beer we’ll order one for each brother too”

Bartender says “Very heart warming”

Two weeks later the same Irishman walks into the bar and orders two pints of Guinness.

Bartender says “My condolenceses, which brother passed on?”

Irishman says “No everyones fine, I just joined the Mormon Church and I had to quit drinking”…

They are incorrect, and they have been discussed here before. I can’t remember now which article was it that was discussed. I have not looked at their anti-Mormon literature very much to be honest, because I am not interested in it that much. I find that kind of material a bit boring, and I don’t spend much tme reading them. But I do recall that I had a quick look at some of the things that are written a while back, and they is wrong.

Are you saying that Mormons are not teaching their own about the ‘errors’ of Catholicism (and I’m being generous here  ) and how to avoid us?
Absolutely not! We do no such thing, neither upblicly nor privately.
Why the alarm? We all want to protect our own, especially if we really believe we hold the truth. Sounds logical and reasonable and to think otherwise is, well, silly.🙂
I agree. I am not complaining about that booklet (only in sofar as it contains unturths, and misrepresents LDS). But as a general principle I have no copmlaints about it. Why me is the one who is complaining; but he does not claim to be LDS.

You know what’s a good way to resolve this problem?

Tell the Mormon sect to quit preying on us Catholics by goin door to door and leave us alone !

You don’t see Catholics doing that to them do you ??
But to openly attempt to discredit a faith is not very good. First, if all christian faiths would practice bashing, there would not be a christ like bone in anyone’s body. Second, it does not create a harmonious world, just the opposite. And third, it is not holy.
Goodness, have some common sense will ya.

What you expect Catholics to do?

Stand by and let the Mormons steal them away from Christ’s flock ?!

Jesus counsels us to be wise like serpent and that’s exactly what we’re doing !

Absolutely not! We do no such thing, neither upblicly nor privately.
A contradiction wouldn’t you say.

How can Mormons recruit Catholics unless they’re shown the ‘error’ of Catholicism?

We don’t actively preach against the “errors” of any religion. We preach to them the message of the Restoration, and the doctrines of the gospel as we understand it. We don’t actively, publicly, or privately publish or say anything derogatory against any religion. You can to the LDS website, and you will not find anything negative said about another religion. You will find such material on the Vatican website, but you won’t find one on the LDS website. I don’t know of any official or unofficial LDS body that publishes anything comparable to the tract that is published by CA. We just don’t do that kind of thing.

IMO, every time whyme starts one of these threads, it only leads to more circular arguing, bashing, and confrontational arguing. These threads are worthless, and they only serve to keep the animostiy between catholics and mormons alive. It’s really tiresome.

On the other hand, it just reinforces my beliefs about mormons and their so-called religion. And it certainly isn’t gaining them any converts here.

Whatever you preach, certainly it’s a contradiction to Catholicism.

How will you refute the belief of other religions unless you claim yours is the correct one??

And if yours is correct, then they must be wrong, right ?

Is that not showing the ‘error’ of their way ?

No one converts unless he thinks his religion is wrong.
We just don’t do that kind of thing
Maybe not, but you’re the only one preying on people by going door to door.
Try quitting that and you might not see so much negativity about LDS.

You know perfectly well what I am talking about. There is a big difference between preaching the truth of your own religion, and publishing negative literature about other religions.

We preach the gospel because that is what God has commanded us to do:

Mark 16:

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

D&C 68:

8 Go ye into all the world, preach the gospel to every creature, acting in the authority which I have given you, baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

If the Catholic Church believes that it is God’s only true church, why don’t they go door to door preaching the gospel? They are very welcome to come to Utah and preach among the Mormons. I promise you that they will be very well received. They will not have the door slammed in their faces. The Mormons will invite them to their homes, listen to their message, feed and clothe them, and send them kindly on their way.

From your own blog, Z. You really take advantage of that ole “lying for the Lord” thing that Mormon’s are allowed to do.

Do Catholics Pray to Mary?

The answer is yes, they do; and it is wrong! There is absolutely no justification for it in the word of God.

Catholics bring various excuses to justify their cult of Mary worship. One of them is to say that prayer is not the same as worship. They say that they pray to her, but don’t worship her. Unfortunately, it does not work that way. Prayer is an act of worship. When we pray to someone or something, we acknowledge the existence of a supreme being whom we do not see, but whom we recognize as being omniscient and omnipotent, and who is therefore able to hear our prayers and answer them. Mary (or the saints) are not omnipotent nor omniscient. They do not have divine powers; and cannot hear our prayers nor act upon them.

Prayer is always addressed to a deity. When we pray to Mary or the Saints, we elevate them to the position of the Deity; and that is sacrilege and wrong. Jesus set the pattern of how we should pray:

Catholics are sacriligeous? Not derogatory??

Your nose is growing!

We preach the gospel because that is what God has commanded us to do:…
Don’t you also preach the Book of Mormon? And where did that come from? That is not “the Gospel”.

And if you are not preaching the Book of Mormon, why not?

And as for Catholics who don’t preach the Gospel - I invite you to click on the link in my signature - Saint Michael’s Media is an entire apostolate of people, just like Catholic Answers, who are indeed doing that very thing.

Knocking on doors is so old school  - get with the times! We (SMM and CA) are reaching more people every single day through electronic media than your door to door canvassers could ever dream of. 😃

So - with all due respect - get over yourself.

Don’t you also preach the Book of Mormon?
We sure do!
And where did that come from?
The Book of Mormon is a book of ancient scripture like the Bible, written by a branch of the Israelite nation who were the former inhabitants of the American continent. It was brought forth and translated into the English language in the 18 century by the gift and power of God.
That is not “the Gospel”.
It sure is! “And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel” (D&C 42:12). You ought to read it some day!
And if you are not preaching the Book of Mormon, why not?
We sure are!

Well, if that works for you, good luck to you. Every church must have its own method of preaching. We have our way and you have yours. We are not complaining about your method, and presumably you don’t have any about ours, right?

You do, however, apparently teach that many of us who decline to convert to Mormonism are destined to spend eternity burning in hell for our “apostacy…”

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=3335739#post3335739

I don’t care what you teach, or what you don’t teach, but I can assure you that the Catholic Church does NOT teach that kind of garbage.

Okay I just have 2 questions

How come we have 3 threads devoted to this topic? I mean why don’t we continue the one we had before and

Why Me What religion are you? You say u wereCatholic then became LDS and then are fence sitting. you seem like your LDS the way you defend them and can’t see the Catholic point of view

thats just my thoughts sorry if y’all don’t like them:thumbsup:
