Thank you for posting this. When I lived in Nevada, a particular protestant church was having trouble getting their building up (which was a block away from our LDS chapel). There was nobody to help them, as the location was out in the middle of the desert. We had members who wanted to help the other church build it’s building, but they would have nothing of the Mormons helping them. How sad. There are countless examples of members of the LDS church helping build other church buildings etc. without regard to the denomintaion; they just want to help build and strengthen the community.

Annie
No problem. I just wanted to show some of the catholics on this board that lds members can be very cooperative with their catholic brothers and sisters.

However, shoofly’s post was ignored by the catholics on this board. They don’t seem to want to acknowledge such close cooperation between the two faiths.

Can you prove it? The problem with the book of mormon is that it hasn’t been proven false. And this is why the lds church still exists today. And I might add that the eleven witnesses to the book of mormon still stand the test of time.

And it is here that the problem exists. Now if it was only Joseph Smith ad he alone, no proven, it could be a fraud. But there are several witnesses to the gold plates.
Those wonderful witnesses. Several of them were good witnesses for Strang as well. Just because the Book of Mormon hasn’t been proven false to you doesn’t mean it hasn’t been proven false to most people. Ask a non-Mormon archaeologist if it’s been proven false. Here’s a link to one who has a lot of sympathy for Mormons:

If I may contrast the OP with what has happened in my neck of the woods.
I live in a smaller farm town in Northern Utah that has been in a building boom the last few years. A local Catholic congregation had purchased land to build a new Church on but was struggling to come up with the funds to do so. Our Stake hosted a dinner in the Stake Center as a fund raiser for this Church. It was promoted and mostly supported by the LDS folks in the community. I know quite a bit of money was raised in this effort. This is the first non-LDS church to be built in our city and thanks to many, the new Church is close to completion. It sits within a half block of an existing LDS Chapel. We hope we are being good neighbors and doing what our Savior would have us do in helping our Bothers and Sisters in Christ.
I’m sure others have similar stories of helping one another.
Isn’t this the way it ought to be?

I think that this post shows true christian spirit. 🙂

I saw your other thread. Strang was a good mimic or copycat. But his church went the way of wind very quickly and suddenly upon his death. And of course there was a reason for this. He wanted power that JS had but he had no truth. Such is life.

Aaaaaw, sugar pie honey bunch, that just melted the ice in my dead, frozen heart. It’s so sweet, my sugar intolerance is kicking in and I’m getting the shakes. Thank you so much for for posting it. Really, I mean it. You’ve convinced me once and for all that it doesn’t matter if a religion is blasphemous and its founders and leaders are criminal. All it matters is that people are NICE and don’t hold to any beliefs at all and just sit and smile and nod at each other.

The problem that the Mormons here have is that they do not like having their bizarre beliefs exposed. Their rationale is “milk before meat,” meaning that non-Mormons are to be given shallow, feel-good answers about their religion until they join. Once they get their targets baptised and in the fold, they’ll start laying on the “meat” (the weird stuff.) The weird material is considered “sacred” (which translates to “secret”) and, according to the Mormons, anyone who puts it out there for the world to see is “anti-Mormon.”
That’s what I like about Catholicism. In RCIA, you get all the rules upfront. Any question you ask is honestly and forthrightly answered.

Thankfully, I live out of a hotel (job-related travel) 9 months out of the year. No Mormons ever come around, but their book sits in the drawer…collecting dust.

The mormons have their book in hotel rooms? The problem with RCIA is that most cradle catholics have never heard of it. And most cradle catholics are ignorant about their faith. The lds church has sunday school every sunday for members in various age groups. Plus, priesthood for men and relief society for women where more doctrine is covered.

The lds meetings last for about 3 hours on sunday. The catholic mass takes under an hour.

But that blasphemuous religion helped the catholic members with their church. And that says a lot about the so-called mormon ‘pagans’. 🙂

Brigham’s church died upon his death as well. The Mormon Church of today is not at all like the Mormon Church of Brigham Young. No polygamy, no Adam-God, no blood atonement, no death oaths in the temple …

Good advice Z. The vast majority seem to be from people who are trying to convince us we are wrong, rather than attempting to truly understand. One of the MANY things I really love about the LDS church is it’s tolerance and respect of all other churches. I find it incredibly sad that the majority of the rest of the Christain community seem to feel that in order to build up their beliefs they must attempt to tear down the beliefs of others.

Article of Faith #11:

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

Annie
what an odd statement for someone whose church is based on the premise that all other churches are apostate with NO sacramental grace and that their creeds are ABOMINATIONS in the sight of God and all who profess them corrupt. (JS-H_

article #11 doesn’t seem to have been applicable to large groups of people over the years such as those who left the LDS to start their own “mormonish” religions nor was it truly respected in Utah under BY. even today this article makes a good sound bite but is neither desirable nor practical. there are many good reasons to limit the how AND the where.

Those of us who DO understand know just how intolerant that LDS church of Mconkie and Petersen was and see the pattern from JS (and especially BY) on down. never denounced, never corrected just ignored and the lesson manuals rewritten as if it never happened. welcome to the ministry of truth

sure it has you just choose not to accept it. what test of time? some of these witnesses testified to the shaker religion and Strangs church too. what does that prove? they weren’t exactly credible to begin with and they got progressively worse. all of these “witnesses” have issues rendering them irrelevant.

now why would LDS do this if they believed as JS taught that this church is wrong and no one should join it? probably a good opportunity to to start the missionary process.

The hotels that do have the BOM are of the Marriott chain - Marriott (sp?) Oh my - does that mean that there are Catholics who have activley supported a Mormon by staying at that particular chain of hotels? You really gotta watch out for those guys - they are everywhere and you would not even know it;)

We would do it because we believe in helping ALL PEOPLE regardless of their religious beleif! 🙂 We believe that we are all children of God and it is our responsibility to care for eachother.

Are YOU in the habit of helping others only if you are able to lead them to the Catholic church? Or, do you see someone in need and stop to help without regard to their religious belief? We should all help eachother.

Annie

I didn’t comment on it because it looks like one of the faith promoting rumors that float around the LDS culture. Nice, happy stories, that are often unsubstantiated. There is nothing in this story that can be verified. Not the town, or parish. Nothing.

For the same reason that the LDS Church helped raise funds to give financial assistance to the Catholic Church to renovate the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City in 1993.
probably a good opportunity to to start the missionary process.
Great! So is the Catholic Church now going to help us build a Mormon temple in Vatican City to convert Mormons?

zerinus

Z,
I doubt there is any space inside Vatican City for much of anything. Rome proper, perhaps.

About the “milk before meat” thing, is this the way Mormons spread the news? DO they intentionally withold teachings until after the person becomes Mormon?
