Finally, Catholic Answers comes clean with the mormon threat ownership.

Catholic Parishes that cooperate with the local LDS wards/stakes risk falling into Mormo-Catholic heresy. I suspect that such cooperation will be much less in years to come. LDS donations generally have some strings attached (if such donations actually occurred). You know, the milk before meat thing.

Z,
I doubt there is any space inside Vatican City for much of anything. Rome proper, perhaps.
Rome will do for me! 🙂
About the “milk before meat” thing, is this the way Mormons spread the news? DO they intentionally withold teachings until after the person becomes Mormon?
I have already answered that in these two posts:

The mormons have their book in hotel rooms? The problem with RCIA is that most cradle catholics have never heard of it. And most cradle catholics are ignorant about their faith. The lds church has sunday school every sunday for members in various age groups.

The lds meetings last for about 3 hours on sunday. The catholic mass takes under an hour.
Yep. And Annie B is right. They were Marriotts (in Louisiana and Oklahoma). There is always a Book of Mormon in the dresser drawer, right next to the Bible.

I agree with you that not a lot of lay Catholics know about RCIA or even know much about their faith. My girlfriend is a cradle Catholic who doesn’t subscribe to many of their rules. She claims ignorance, even months after I read to her from the Catholic Catechism. She just wants a cafeteria faith.

As a Baptist, we have Sunday School classes tailored to each age group and status (marrieds, singles, college, etc). Many Catholics don’t even stay the whole hour. Some do the “Judas Shuffle” and book it out the door right after receiving Communion.

Thank you again, zerinus.

Now, assuming that someone accepts the call to repentance and accepts the Mormon Faith, how long does it take to fully “know” the faith? I use know in quotes because I understand that the answer may be never. How long does it take for most people to become knowledgeable enough to defend it?

The answer to that is the same as for any religion, especially a complex religion such as the Catholic Church. It depends on how much time and effort and study they want to put into it.

Hopefully, converts to LDS should immediately commence with intensive study of their new faith. That should get them out quickly. 😛

Except the psychology of it all…mormonism is one head-trip and a half.

Thank you Annie. There are many posts made here that do not deserve to be answered, and I do not answer them. My advice to you is to do the same. This is one of those.

I thank you Annie for at least replying to my Question. I can except that not all teaching may be directly out of Holy Scripture. I would say that they should be supported by it though. Now Zerinus to you I have asked question that you do not even have the common courtesy to provide a link to the answers to. To me these as very important Questions as they contradict the Bible. they contradict all Jewish and Christian teaching from the the very beginning. I will ask them again with the hope of an answer.
I for one would never presume to tell you or any one that your religion is false. So I will ask you to clarify some things that all us believe that the LDS teach.
1)God the father has a physical body and lives on a distant plant with a wife and raising a family.
  1. That Jesus was the first born of is God couple and him and his younger brother Lucifer both came to earth to lead people to God.
  1. That we can become gods ourselves and create our own universes/worlds of people to be gods of.
  1. That Adam and eve did not sin when they ate from the tree of life and where cast from the garden.
Please show me were in any old or new testament or writings of the early 1st century Church that any of these is beliefs were held or taught.
I could even except Hebrew teaching if you could offer them that support these stance. Or if they are not teaching of the LDS church please refute them.

Actually, mormons do stand up for christ. They live good christian lives and I know that christ is very happy with the lds teaching on morality. Now I can not be sure about the Anglicans. I tend to see them as being very liberal on moral issues and of course the Episcopal Church is very split on gay bishops etc.
How about a man who steals the wives of other men? Isn’t that immoral? Joseph Smith did that. You seem comfortable judging non-Mormons, but everything Joseph Smith did is okay no matter how many commandments he broke? :tsktsk:

I’ve been reading these posts from the beginning and wasn’t going to comment, but… well now I guess I will.

Firstly, re: the OP’s original post, I whole-heartedly agree with CAF for putting the information out there, I was brought up mormon and Thanks be to God, converted to Catholicism when I was 22. I agree with their stance on wanting to make people aware of what the LDS is trying to “feed” to unsuspecting people. Now that being said, I have a sister who is mormon - she and her family are - and they live in Utah. My nephew (her son) is actually on his mission. Do I disagree with this, you bet! But I love my sister and her family and I pray for their conversion, moreso. ❤️
The mormons have their book in hotel rooms? The problem with RCIA is that most cradle catholics have never heard of it. And most cradle catholics are ignorant about their faith. The lds church has sunday school every sunday for members in various age groups. Plus, priesthood for men and relief society for women where more doctrine is covered.

I’m sorry but this comment does not wash with me. Ask ANY Catholic who goes to Mass regularly and I’ll bet they ALL know what RCIA is. Guess what, the RCC has Sunday school, too - and there are prayer groups for men and women.

I know from experience the the LDS meetings last at least 3 hours each Sunday, But I’d rather spend one hour in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist than an afternoon of “fellow-shipping” anyday.

I hate to be confrontational about things, and I mean no disrespect, but you can’t honestly make ignorant comments about the Catholic faith on a Catholic forum and not get people all up in arms.

Are YOU in the habit of helping others only if you are able to lead them to the Catholic church? Or, do you see someone in need and stop to help without regard to their religious belief? We should all help eachother.

Annie
i wouldn’t help them build an altar to satan or a pagan temple or a church teaching heresy. I would help them with housing, food, medical care etc. what about you? would you help build pagan temples or satanic altars?

and what reason would that be?

no the catholic church has no desire to build mormon temples
Because mormonism is the predominant religion in Utah, and once in a while they like to make a show of playing well with others. It’s like the abusive parent who smacks you around one day, and gives you a hug the next. And if you complain, they say, but I hugged you!!

:hug1:

No, we do not accept that EVERYTHING Joseph Smith did was okay how can we since he was human? The ONLY one who is perfect is Jesus Christ. All of us - including our church prophets - are human and therefore at risk of making human errors/mistakes. Since when is perfection a requirement for being a prophet/church leader? Do you think the Pope is perfect? Do you think all the prophets of the old/new testament were perfect in every way? Again I say; Jesus was the only perfect person to walk the face of this earth.

Annie
(I just could not resist beating this dead horse one more time…😉 )

The same goes for those making ignorant comments to Mormons about Mormons when those making the comments either have no real experience with Mormons or they have merely had a different experience. If the Catholics are so “up in arms” about all this, then why is it even allowed in the forums?

Annie

What about your god on the planet Kolob? Is he imperfect, too?

They don’t want to answer those kind of question. I have asked ans can get no answers.
Apparently you are not asking the right people.:o Also, if you are approaching people with an honest desire to know truth and not a sarcastic attitude trying to make them “slip up” somehow, you may eventually get the answers you say you are looking for. I have noticed that most of the questions asked in any of the threads about Mormons are not from sincere truth seekers, but rather from people who are really trying to tear the Mormon Church apart (which will never happen so you al may want to sart saving your anger for something else;) )
