🙂 I have realized myself that copying music or even a good chunk of books is stealing…not only stealing, but it is the person’s way of making a living.

Shame on you for liking Elvis Presley music…lol! Kidding. To each’s own.😉
:o I downloaded an Engelbert Humperdinck song too. 😊 Oh no, everything is coming out of this confession now. :crying:
Isn’t it interesting how stealing can take so many forms?? I agree, that it’s best to not take music off the internet that you didn’t pay for…it’s no different than pocketing a cd in your local walmart…
Well, at the risk of sounding boring, it is different. The local walmart store can no longer sell that cd that you pocketed. Do you see why piracy isn’t just a black 'n white case of stealing?

I think there is plenty of piracy that is serious. But not all piracy is serious. :twocents:

Whether or not the group is ‘super rich’ isn’t really the issue…it’s about stealing songs. Remember when music stores sold ‘singles?’ Just one song or two for less money? I liken taking songs off the internet, to shoplifting one of those. I will admit, we used to download a few songs off this one site…but no more. I started really thinking about it, and it is not right…and it is stealing. Hope that helps.🙂
Good point. I had friends that used to steal cassette singles from Sam Goody when I was in high school. That wasn’t cool either.

This is no different than recording old tales onto DVD (or tv shows) and selling them. There is a reason Ebay doesn’t allow sales of recorded, copyrighted broadcasts. It’s illegal.

Yep, you’re absolutely right with your whole response.

I guess I take issue that I never see a thread about jaywalking.
That is fair. I just want us to be intellectually honest about right and wrong. Technically, jaywalking would fall inot the same category.

What about for us Canadians?
  1. Its not illegal here if for personal use ie. you and only you listen to the song
  2. Part of sales from MP3 players and the like, as well as tax dollars, go to subsidize artists, so the money we spend on the items that use those downloaded songs…is being returned to the artist.
I honestly, under those two reasons, find it a mortal sin. If either were to change I’d wipe my harddrive of any music I downloaded.

Honestly, I see no difference in downloading under those two conditions and going on Youtube and listening there. People say well the ads on youtube pay for it…well our gov’t subsidies do the same.
