The movie rights are someoneā€™s property. We donā€™t own the movie so we canā€™t do that. I donā€™t know who put it on youtube and Iā€™m not sure that really matters to me either.

I was interested in seeing how corny it was so I watched it in Italian to check, and then bought a copy so that the people who made the movie get their royalties. Itā€™s a good movie and they deserve to have the fruit of their labors. Besides, Iā€™d like to watch it again, in English this time. My Italian is very poor and Iā€™m sure I missed a lot of things.

Some of the older St. Francis movies were made for general audiences, and in order to make what he did understandable to a general audience without religious knowledge, things that happened in the real life of St. Francis were often somewhat misrepresented. I didnā€™t want to watch something like that.

This movie has some visible fluff in it, but overall itā€™s a pretty plausible account, I think.
 
Got this from a friend of mine (new SFO Formation schedule). Looks really good.

Are they still using Lester Bachā€™s book?

Donā€™t think so, unless theyā€™re using it in as a reference. I hope that this is going to be a great improvement.

I am glad they have changed it. I may even get it, if it is in book form. Is it?

I donā€™t like the ā€œbird-bath St. Francisā€ approach. LOL.

I know he lived a long time ago and some things are legend. No problem there. But itā€™s important, I think, to really read, remember & digest what there was and understand it through the right lens, not the lens of the mid-20th century.

[He should be understood through a lens that understands his time and place, and then whatā€™s learned should be applied to nowā€¦not the other way around!!!]

St. Francis is not only the most loved saint, heā€™s got to be one of the most misunderstood in modern times.

The new formation book, you mean? No, I donā€™t think so. Itā€™s in a binder and if your formation director went to the formation meetings at regional where it was introduced and given out, that person should have it. You will probably see it emerge in fraternity meetings, I expect. Thereā€™s talk of using it not only as initial formation, but as ongoing formation for fraternities. Did you see the last issue of the Tau?

I also think bits and pieces of it may start to appear on the internet, although Iā€™m not sure the whole thing will. Donā€™t know if itā€™s copyrighted or not.

I used to be a teacher. I hope itā€™s got some ā€œmeatā€ in it, meaning articles to read and references to things for study. And I hope that itā€™s not just pages of open-ended questions for discussion which donā€™t really do much. My teacher instincts are working. šŸ˜›

When I was Formation Director, I made up a manual that was a pale version of this one. Finding the articles was fun. Unfortunately, the chapters were from Catch Me a Rainbow II. We already know how I feel about that šŸ˜ƒ

Yes, well, I have every reason to believe that this one is better. I think the foundational material came from CIOFS, and the particulars from NAFRA. It ought to be pretty good. Iā€™m looking forward to seeing it.

Iā€™ll bet finding the articles was fun. Although good articles are NOT easy to find!

I have learned so much from Br. JR. Even though heā€™s a friar and weā€™re in a different part of the Franciscan family, heā€™s been very helpful. He knows a lot about SFOs.

Iā€™m pretty sure heā€™s a friar. The group heā€™s with uses the OFM rule I think, but I could be wrong about that. Heā€™s said in one of his posts someplace. We should ask when he comes in here.

PS, Catch Me a Rainbow. I could never get past the titleā€¦LOL. Very 70s.
