If what I have heard and read is true, it makes the fire even worse
Fire Destroys Catholic Church In Eastern Indiana
Sat Apr 7, 6:45 PM ET
A Catholic church in Henry County was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning, sparking a criminal investigation.
St. Anne Catholic Church has served New Castle since 1924. The church was supposed to hold Mass Saturday night, one of two services scheduled for Easter weekend, 6News’ Stacia Matthews reported.
Fire crews were alerted to the blaze at about 7:45 a.m. as thick smoke billowed from the rear of the church.

This is terrible news. 😦

And I think that parish is in my diocese.

It is horrible that they no longer have a place to worship. But I thought this place was close to Indianapolis, not Eastern Indiana?

About 15 years ago somebody torched the church I was a member of. They were never caught.

God turned evil to good, however, and used it to heal some things in the congregation that had festered for a long time. He had the victory. No situation is so bad that He cannot bring good out of it. Romans 8:35-39 still applies.

Thanks be to God who ever triumphs. The disciples were in hiding on Easter morning, except for a few brave ladies who went to the tomb.

This kind of thing happens in other countries all the time. That doesn’t trivialize it, however. I know how they feel.

When I was a kid, some guy broke into our church to steal the tabernacle. We were a rapidly growing parish, so mass was held in the auditorium of a Catholic School I would later attend. The guy for some reason wasn’t able to steal it 'cause it was heavy or something, so he set the stage area of the auditoriuk on fire. There was minimal damage and we were building a new church anyways. I hope these folks get a new church soon!

I wonder if the arsonist is caught, will he or she be prosecuted for a hate crime?

Evening news said “still being investigated”.

There was another church burned, of another denomination a couple of weeks ago (not in the same area). The pastor immediately came out condemming the arsonists. “hell and brimstone” type of quotes.

Sure glad these folks are trying to keep a positive attitude.

Unfortunately this is not unusual.

10 years ago the Cathedral in Parramatta was destroyed by arson.
Last year we went to the local suburban church we usually go to when visiting Melbourne to discover it had been completely gutted by fire. We found out later this had happened a couple of months earlier, the police said it was arson, but apart from a suburban local free paper, the media didn’t even bother to report it.

It occurred to me that if this had happened to a mosque or a synagogue, it would be international front-page news.

Our local parish has recently had its picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour stolen. As it would have very low resale value it was obviously another hate-crime.

Another time a group of us emerged from a meeting at another parish to find that every panel of every car parked in the church car park (and nowhere else) had been deliberately scratched with a sharp object.

Our Lord wasn’t kidding when He said “You will be hated by all men on My account.” .
