Why is the Old Testament so filled with younger brothers taking the first-born’s birth rite?
For example, God favor’s Abel over Cain, Jacob over Esau, Joseph over his brothers, Isaac over Ishmael, and David over his brothers.
Any one know the meaning behind this?
God doesn’t always choose what to us would seem obvious.
Jacob stayed at home, obedient to his mother. This is the biblical image of one who is recollected to God in the interior of his heart and soul, making a home for God in himself and happy there, instead of being fascinated with things of the world and full of the lust of the eyes. He stays at home with his mother, who is the image of Mary, and does what she says without questioning.
Esau on the other hand, was strong and skilled as a hunter, and made much of his own skill and strength, relying on it at all times. He was full of the lust of the eyes, always roaming around the countryside looking for some game to kill or something to conquer. He was rarely at home, meaning that he was rarely recollected to God in the interior of his heart and made little space for God in the temple of his body. He never spent time with his mother and consequently, as the image of Mary, she showed him no favors.
It’s a lesson about lusting after things of the earth, reliance on ourselves, and not being obedient to and spending time with hour Blessed Mother in the image of Esau vs. the image of Jacob who is happy with God at home inside of himself, recollected, interior, prayerful, and the man who spends time with and who trusts and obeys Mary in all things. The latter hangs out at the adoration chapel with a miraculous medal around his neck and recieves a blessing from his Heavenly Father. The former hangs out at the bar trying to pick up chicks and reads Hot Rod magazine - he gets a plate of Ramen Noodles (-

-) and is always in a rage.
