First Friday Adoration

I was volunteering as a Knight to help guard the chapel during first Friday adoration. The Knights that were there sat towards the back, and one of them had his head bowed downward. Is there a like standard operating procedure for when you go to a first Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament? I ended up praying the Rosary because I have never been to one before.

Is there a like standard operating procedure for when you go to a first Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament? I ended up praying the Rosary because I have never been to one before.

Proper etiquette for adoration is to genuflect (down on both knees) when you enter the area of adoration and when you leave. This is only done when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar during adoration.

Then, during adoration, proper posture is to kneel, just as you will see in pictures of the Pope.

There are many prayers that are specifically oriented to adoration. But the Rosary, as well as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and the Liturgy of the Hours are all approprate. Private or common prayer is also appropriate.

When old people get tired, we sit. When we are rested we again kneel, since that is the proper posture in the presence of G-d.

2. Praise - because of His eternal goodness, love and mercy.
3. Thanksgiving - for all that we have received, are receiving, and will receive.
4. Propitiation - for our sins which go always before us in His sight.
5. Petition - for the sake of our brothers and sisters in Christ, and for our needs.

Notice how often we reverse this order?

Thank you, KCT, for this link. I’ve done some copying and pasting and will be sharing this with my 7th grade CCD class. The timing is truly divine intervention - next class we’re studying prayer, and all its different forms. This will be a valuable tool for teaching that!
