An early reminder that we are having First Friday and Saturday this week. I am so excited when the first week of a month comes. 🙂
 
First Fridays are in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus - normal procedure is to attend Mass and receive communion for the First Fridays of nine consecutive months. You might also pray such things as the Litany of the Sacred Heart and the Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart and such.

First Saturdays are in honour of the Immaculate Heart of Mary - one confesses up to a week before or after, then on the day one attends Mass, says five decades of the Rosary and spends fifteen minutes ‘meditating on the mysteries’ of the Rosary. I usually do the latter by praying a Divine Mercy Chaplet whilst meditating on the Sorrowful Mysteries 👍

This is done for the First Saturdays of five consecutive months.

Interesting question, now I look closer to the last link I have given you, it looks like this is not Catholic site as it claims to be. The site truecatholic.org is NOT Catholic. I have removed the link to prevent others to think it is Catholic site.

It is quite disturbing to read this part:

As an RCIA Candidate, unable to receive communion, I wonder if I should attend anyhow?😦

Please participate in this as and any other devotional activities. This will help you become more attuned to the presence of God, even if you cannot receive Holy Communion or participate in the Sacrament of Confession/Pennance.
 
Ah, now this all makes sense. I had never really understood this either.

I think this would be a great practice for the new year. The First Friday I can probably pull off, but with the things I do it is unlikely I will be able to do five First Saturdays in a row, since I travel a good bit on the weekends.

With the Saturdays … try masstimes.org to locate a church en route, ring up beforehand to make sure the advertised schedule is correct, and go. It’s only half an hour or so out of your trip, and you’ve got to take a break sometime, right 😉 And remember Saturday evening vigils also count for the First Saturday obligation.

I know I’ve certainly seen some beautiful and interesting churches I wouldn’t otherwise have come across this way. If you can’t manage, just go as often as you can, which I’m sure will still be very pleasing to Our Lady.

Many parishes don’t have communion, so you might have to do some research so that you end up failing to make your 9 consecutive first Fridays.

Years ago, a friend of mine and myself, decided to do 9 first Fridays, and sure enough, Good Friday was one of them. His parish had even Good Friday service, but no communion.
My parish had Good Friday service, but we were able to receive communion( no Mass).

Wouldn’t a Vigil mass on Thursday Evening count as a Friday Mass?

Andruschak, yes go. For one thing it is a blessing just to attend First Fridays. Once you’ve been a few times I think you will be hooked on it. At my church, a lot of the same people come time after time (even after counting nine).

And there are often those present who would like to pray the rosary afterwards.
 
Keep in mind if you start the 1st Friday novena, that it’s not impossible to receive communion on Good Friday, provided that you are able to receive at a parish that has a communion service. The novena doesn’t specify that you must attend Mass, but rather, receive communion.

Also, please remember that there is a devotion to the Sacred Heart that goes along with this and the 9th First Fridays are not a magic number to get you into heaven despite all else.

I know a man who was devoted to doing nine first Fridays, and he placed pressure on is relatives to do the same, in a very uncharitable way. Everything else in his life was contrary to the Gospel.
