(Vatican Radio) The Holy See’s Press Office issued the following statement on Saturday (July 11th) concerning the criminal trial of the former Apostolic Nuncio to the Dominician Republic, Jozef Wesolowski, who is charged with paedophile acts and possessing child pornographic material.
“This morning, at 9.30, at the Vatican City State Tribunal, the first hearing took place in the criminal trial of the ex-nuncio to the Dominican Republic Józef Wesołowski, indicted for the crime of possession of child pornography and for paedophile acts.

From the article:
At the opening of the trial the promoter of Justice announced that the defendant was not present in court as he has been admitted to hospital.
The Court took due note of the impediment to the presence of the defendant, following the onset of an unexpected illness necessitating his transfer to a public hospital where he is currently in the intensive care unit.
In accordance with Article 471 c.p.p. the Tribunal suspended the trial and postponed it until a later date, awaiting the termination of the cause that has given rise to the postponement.”
Translation: the tribunal has met, found that the defendant is not present, and postponed the trial until the defendant is out of hospital.

Tomorrow, August 11th, will mark a month since the first hearing was scheduled for the trial of ex-nuncio to the Dominican Republic Wesolowski - which he missed.

I hope the Vatican provides news soon. We are waiting. We the people of the Dominican Republic demand justice.

It’s a good thing he is being tried at the Vatican as it would be difficult to secure his safety in prison in the Dominican Republic.

I can’t hope but hope that they nail this guy.

I wonder where he would serve his sentence. AFAIK the Vatican has little more than one cell to hold a person.

He will serve his sentence in an Italian prison, just like the guy who shot Saint Pope John II the Great. The shooter was not tortured and killed by the prisoners so, Wesolowski will probably securely serve his sentence - which I think should be life. Unfortunately, it seems that by the laws it will not be many years. Although due to his age he may die in prison. He needs to be locked up and the keys thrown away - yes, fed, all that but he should not ever walk the streets of any city a free man.

So is he out of the hospital yet for the hearing to continue?
