What was the first Holy Card you received? Who did you receive it from? Was it on a special occasion?

I’m not sure if this counts or not, but my first Holy Card was the Act of Contrition. My Great Aunt, who is helping me with my discernment of the religious life, gave it to me a few days after my Priest told her I came and talked to him about being called to the religious life. Along with the card, she also gave me a small book about Guardian Angels and a book about the Rosary/Mysteries. To me, it was a special occasion, because it not only made our Catholic faith stronger, it also made us stronger as family. 🙂

I was 5 years old when my grandmother gave me a Holy Card of the Blessed Mother with the prayer on back of Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue. Grandma taught me the prayer, and told me to say it every day. I still have the card. I keep it in my Devine Office and say the pray every day.

My first holy card was from a friend of my mom’s. It was a prayer to St. Joseph with a lovely picture of Joseph and the Christ Child on the other side. I still have it by my bed and I set my favorite rosary beside it (whenever that rosary is not in use, that is). 😉

Takes me back to 1966, it was Mary, and very beautiful, but that is all I remember.
Who did you receive it from?
One of the nuns at school, can’t remember which one though.
Was it on a special occasion?
Not that I can recall.

Somewhat off topic, but, tawny, when I read “Grandma taught me the prayer” - I was reminded of an incident over the Christmas holidays. I had been teaching my granddaughter to use her fingers to pray the 5 Finger Prayer (as her prayers tended to be a rambling, “thank you for mummy, thank you for the ceiling, thank you for granny’s eyes, thank you for the cupboard…” - for however long she felt she could ramble and delay bedtime). So she tells her parents that, “Granny has been teaching me to pray like this” holding up her hand with the middle finger extended. Oops, not quite.

My very first Holy Card was one with Christ the King in front and a prayer on the back. The prayer was in spanish. I still have it, but it is sort of falling apart 😦

:rotfl: I’m sure her parents knew your intent, and I’m sure that she will learn with time.

I received a holy card portraying Saint Joseph holding the Child Jesus.
Saint Joseph is also holding beautiful white lilies.
The card has the Memorare of Saint Joseph.

All my holy cards have been those I’ve bought for myself. I moved a number of times after my entry into the Church and those Catholic friends I have been able to have haven’t felt holy cards were important. I’m the only one in my family who’s Catholic too.

First holy card was a Holy Communion picture of Jesus giving a girl Holy Communion. It was given by the parochial school to all first communion children (of course the boys got a picture with a boy on it).
