Some people do not like the second graders to make First Holy Communion on Mother’s Day. Why?

Our parish also has First Communion but on Saturday afternoon before the Vigil Mass, so I think that is a little better.Because it takes the focus off mom?
The funny thing is if 1st communion were scheduled the same Sunday as Father’s Day, most people wouldn’t bat an eye.
Our parish is doing 1st communion this weekend also and everyone has talked about that and Mother’s Day. The one thing no one has mentioned? The Feast of the Ascension. I pity the homilist this weekend trying to tie all three together in 7 minutes. Those dioceses that maintain it on Thursday, have dodged that bullet. It would be a pity if the Ascension was given short shrift, but if mom’s aren’t called to stand up and applauded I know our poor pastor will get nasty grams and it’s hard to not mention first communicants and their catechists. Like I said, I pity those giving homilies on the 8th.
Probably a better choice. We have something like 160 1st communicants that they are spreading over 4 masses. They tried to split it over 2 different Sundays a few years back. Several people had a kanipshin when their kid wasn’t in the 1st Sunday groups and were a week behind their friends. Having a specific 1st communion mass on Saturday would avoid some of those other scheduling conflicts. Our parish also has First Communion but on Saturday afternoon before the Vigil Mass, so I think that is a little better.
We don’t have that many, but it’s split between Hispanics and English, so there’s two different Masses. It gets crazy when it’s bi lingual.Probably a better choice. I get really embarrassed when our priest has the mothers stand and give them a blessing. There are so many other women there that are single or can’t conceive. I think a better thing would be to have a special prayer for mothers alive and deceased. Mine is deceased and I always feel a little blue that day.I would think the only acknowledgement of Mothers’ Day would be a blessing, certainly not applause during Mass. Mass is not about us no matter how important we think we are. A reception might be appropriate after Mass as well as distributing a special Mass Card to the ladies on their way in to church. I also think when there is a large number receiving first communion it might be better to have a special Mass rather than the regular Sunday Mass.
I hate when our priest requires us to extend our arms in the “Hail, Hitler” position when he blesses someone. I’m sure we’ll have to do it this weekend!I get really embarrassed when our priest has the mothers stand and give them a blessing. I simply refuse to do so. You could as well. At some point we all have to say enough is enough. We are not priests. We have not received the sacrament of Holy Orders. The priest has the power to bless and he should be the one to do it. Alone.I hate when our priest requires us to extend our arms in the “Hail, Hitler” position when he blesses someone.
