I thought that this was a good comment about the debate from David French at the conservative magazine National Review:

"I felt like I was watching the political Titanic hit the iceberg, back up, and hit it again. Just for fun.” 😃

I cannot believe that anyone could concieve that Trump won. I would never ever vote for Hillary, but she came across well prepared and had answers to all of the questions that were coherent and didn’t involve her saying ‘there are no jobs’ twenty times in a minute. I felt embarrassed for Trump. And that he came off as more elitist thinking that he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread because he’s a billionaire and that entitles him to be president.

When he leaned into the mic after she accused him of not paying taxes I was sure he would deny it but he said “that’s business”. I nearly choked. And how his tax policy involves cutting taxes for the wealthy? How self serving is that? I’m sorry, I cannot understand how his responses to those two things alone didn’t loose him the debate.

Both candidates got a few good punches in on various issues but I think Hillary recovered from them better.

Holt was obviously going to interrupt Trump more given that Trump kept trying to speak when he wasn’t suposed to. Hillary did it too but Trump was more rude about it. Also Trump refused to answer some questions like the Birther thing so Holt cut across to try and get him to stop waffling.

I guess if you really dislike Clinton it colours your opinion of her. But her ‘smug’ look was probably unavoidable because she knew she didn’t want to be accused of scowling the whole time. She probably practiced her not talking face. Unlike Trump.

Trump’s temperament comment was one of the more ironic moments in the debate for me.

Ultimately it comes down to a candidate that would be terrible for unborn babies (the ultimate no no) or a dude who comes across as embarrassingly unsuited to the job. I would probably vote for trump and feel sick afterwards or vote third party. But I don’t have a vote. I don’t envy you guys your choices this time around.
I agree with most of what you said.

But he said “That’s business” regarding the housing crisis and his comments regarding the housing comments.

He said “That’s cuz I’m smart” regarding his lack of payment of federal tax.

My State is going to vote for Hillary.

I can’t vote for Trump. So I’m not sure yet if I will write someone in, or go to one of the third parties, or abstain all together for president.

This is encouraging:

catholicvote.org/new-poll-shows-trump-surging-with-white-catholics/
Back in August, a Washington Post-ABC poll showed Donald Trump trailing Hillary Clinton by 3 points among white Catholics. That caused considerable panic in Republican circles, because this was one of the few demographics that had been moving rightward over the last decade.
(To provide some perspective, even though he lost the overall Catholic vote to Obama 50%-48%, Romney won white Catholics by 19 points, 59-40%.)
But a new Washington Post-ABC poll shows a surge of white Catholic support for Donald Trump. Trump now leads Clinton 57-33% among white Catholics, a 24-point margin.
Trump 57% with white Catholics would be on-par with Romney’s 59% in 2012. But Hillary’s 33% would be a significant drop from Obama’s 40% mark four years ago. This would mean **1 in 6 white Catholics who supported Obama are not backing Hillary Clinton. **
Back in August, the Washington Post suggested that “Donald Trump has a massive Catholic problem.”
But now it looks like Hillary Clinton is the one with a Catholic problem.

…He interrupted Trump 41 times and Hillary 7 times. She was allowed to talk on and on while he was cut off time and again.
Because he went off the rails, interrupted, dodged questions, and otherwise broke debate procedure far more often than she did.

My mother, a die hard republican, was shocked and embarrassed by his behavior and hollow rhetoric.

Wow…what a bunch of whining nit picking bunch here on CAF…I won’t be voting for HC or DT…but to read the comments by some here on HC…what color dress she wore…was she going to stand on a box to look taller…her makeup…she looked like she had a tummy upset…on and on…just spiteful comments by people who call themselves Catholic…it just shows how politics takes precedence over any sense of Christian charity by some…sad.
Exactly. This site (at least the “World News” forum) is a turn-off for Catholics. Conservative partisanship before practiced faith.

Holt interrupted Trump 41 times …
Well, he **tried **to interrupt him 41 times when Trump went on and on beyond his time limit. Very few of those times were successful. Holt was extremely deferential to both Trump and Clinton, letting both of them break the rules. As I said before, the debate might as well have been unmoderated.

Michael Moore melts down on Twitter after debate: ‘It’s over’
Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore appeared distressed with Monday night’s debate outcome, declaring Republican nominee Donald Trump the victor to his nearly 3 million Twitter followers.
Moore, who is known for his films criticizing former President George W. Bush and U.S. gun policies, warned Democrats that Trump is well on his way to defeating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Here is a devastating review of Lester Holt’s job as debate moderator by Joe Concha at The Hill: thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/media/297978-nbcs-lester-holt-emerges-from-debate-bruised-and-partisan

Reactions to the debate are similar to primary debates. Every time pundits say trymp blew it, but no, his momentum will continue to build. This is a different year.

Trump was so unprepared, and he missed so many opportunities from hitting Hillary on her private server re: cyber security, to the Iran nuke deal/her selling 20% of our uranium, and then re: Trump stiffing people he failed to hit her back with her stealing millions from everyone all over the world (Haiti, etc.). Trump spent way too much time defending himself because he’s egotistical, he should have hit Hillary more, so that she was the one on the defense. He didn’t come across as Presidential IMO, especially with his facial expressions, his interruptions and some of his comments. Trump’s team really needs to sit him down and work with him for these debates, but my guess is that Trump is going to do what he wants. Hillary talks well about the issues, but I didn’t hear much about her plans and solutions. Poor performance by Trump.
Fair analysis in my opinion. Also his hand movements are very irritating at times.

Lester Holt is a registered Republican. 🤷

The questions were not known ahead of time, so how could she be reading from a TelePrompTer? They aren’t small, someone in the audience could have turned their heads and scene it. Trump would have seen it.

Like her or dislike her, she did very well yesterday.
I didn’t say she WAS reading from a teleprompter, just that it appeared she was, also her answers were canned and I don’t trust the Democrats or Obamas NBC and she probably has had the questions for weeks.

Whatever Trump has done in business even if we don’t think it was fair, it is part of the business world, at least he wasn’t responsible for our Ambassadors and 3 other deaths plus many in the middle east with her horrible judgement.

Holt might register as a Republican, doesn’t mean he is one. Who knows the truth. His actions were typical of all the moderators coming from the Dems.

I guess we all will know in the future if she wins, that our lives will be much worst off than today.

  1. If we are going to justify people’s behavior based on it being part of the business world, we should not complain about other people’s behavior if it is based on the political world or the legal world or the enter your choice here world
  2. I would expect Republicans to be harder on Republicans and Democrats to be harder on Democrats. This is because you want to make sure that who ever is representing you is the best representative of your group and so that others won’t say you were being nice to your side.

Whatever Trump has done in business even if we don’t think it was fair, it is part of the business world,
Maybe so, but he didn’t take the same business ethics classes I had to take.

People don’t forget when you stiffed or defrauded them out of money.

But then it’s okay if it happens to someone else. “Oh, well, that’s business.”
