Although I have finished the five consecutive First Saturdays, the devotion seems natural to continue, which I plan on doing. Also, I intend to complete the nine First Fridays devotion for reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I have completed the first two months, the first one at my chapel where I am a member, the second communion was in my hometown, and then was able to go to confession at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Already the Lord is opening my heart to want to receive the Eucharist daily or as often as possible (up to twice daily) , if not for my own soul, at least for reperation to the Sacred Heart.

Oh, great. You inspire me to do so as well. Basically it consist of going to mass on First Saturdays, right? Rosary, check. I don’t really know “what to do” on first saturdays, I’ll look it up online

I think it is our Lady of Fatima who told us to do so, isn’t it?

Update:
Here is an interesting information about first saturdays devotion
rosary-center.org/firstsat.htm
miraclerosarymission.org/ihm.htm
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Saturday_Devotions

It is basically going to mass, rosary, confession in the intention of making reparation to the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Right, I heard about it from researching and learning about Our Lady of Fatima and the accounts of the Fatima seers Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia. Also, my pastor had recommended it and our parish supports the devotion.

Just one more thing - I believe Our Lady requested to keep her company by a 15 minute meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary on the First Saturday as well - with the intention of making reperation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart.

God Bless
In Christ through Mary

Thank you mariafransica3 for linking that resource. I’d like to point out that I beleive that this upcoming First Saturday is the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so in some ways is a really special day for making reparation to the Immaculate Heart. Also, this First Friday is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is another special day for making reperation to the Sacred Heart.

Just a reminder that the First Friday and First Saturday of July 2011 are coming up tomorrow and Saturday.

I have a question! 🙂
About the mass, is it alright if I attend the anticipated Sunday mass on a Saturday evening?

According to Fr. Serpa on the ask an apologist forum, an anticipated Mass “counts” for the First Saturday devotion as well as Sunday’s Mass. You don’t have to go to two Masses (but of course, you can go Saturday late afternoon and Sunday morning if you like!)

I’ve been doing it, this is my third Saturday. 🙂 My parish promotes it, with a special Mass and Confessions on First Saturdays and a group rosary. I haven’t encountered any difficulties specifically regarding this devotion, at least none that I’m aware of. Sorry to disappoint. 😉

Anyway, as far as I understand it, on each First Saturday of the month:

-Receive Communion
-Pray five decades of the rosary
-Go to confession (a week before or after is fine)
-meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary (anywhere from one to all of them)

with the intention of making reparation to Mary’s Immaculate Heart. You can also continue the devotion after five Saturdays, you don’t have to stop at five.
This bit, about confession, is not one that I understood until last month. I was quite sad because I was on my 3rd First Saturday and had not made it to confession. I saw one of the Fathers and asked if I could pop into the confessional. When we got in there, I said, “Thank you Father, I was really wanting to confess because I’m in the middle of my First Saturdays devotions.” Well, I had confessed to him three days prior, and he said, “You know you have an 8 day period to confess, you don’t have to confess on the Saturday, right?” “Aw man, why don’t they tell me these things?!”

Also, for the meditation, I have a small book with pictures and scriptures of the different mysteries that I use so that I can do Mental Prayer with the subject of the mysteries of the Rosary. The first First Saturday that I did, I didn’t understand that a person was to do a full rosary and 15 separate minutes of reflection upon the mysteries. So now I read.

Today will be my fourth Saturday (and yesterday was my fourth First Friday Sacred Heart devotion, on the feast of the Sacred Heart). Being a “Daily Masser”, it’s an extra special blessing to have these devotions to give to Christ and Mary on the first Friday and Saturday. Even when I’ve finished the “official” devotion, I still intend on continuing the devotions every First Friday and First Saturday. My spirituality and relationship with Jesus has grown by leaps and bounds since starting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I am finding that my closeness to Mary is increasing with the First Saturday devotion as well.

There are several parishes in my area that promote the Saturday devotions to Our Lady of Fatima. In my own parish it is not promoted, but there are enough parishes around to go to for that.

In the town I grew up in there was a strong First Saturday devotion, and when I got married and moved elsewhere there it was again!

So, from what I can see it has not died out, and it is up to parishioners sometimes to promote it.

I recently had someone at Mass ask for some information about this devotion. I really encourge it!

I just completed the 3rd consecutive 1st Friday, and was asked to read the 2nd reading at that day’s Mass. I am starting to desire to become obedient to Mary as Jesus was obedient to her in His domestic life on earth.

This Friday and Saturday are the First Friday and First Saturday of the month of August 2011.

i just finished the first saturday devotion last month but i have been doing the first nine fridays as well.
miraclerosarymission.org/shj.htm
and then i also noticed the dual devotion as well but i’m a bit sceptical of this as i’ve never heard of it but no harm in doing it anyway as it’s all for the glory of God

Thanks for the link. That looks pretty good. I wonder if I can do the First Saturday’s devotion twice and get the blessing again?

I just finished the 4th consecutive First Friday and did the 5 First Saturdays for the second time. I am learning a lot about love, mercy, justice, forgiveness, and dependence on God for all things - but as a loved child depends on his parents for all things. I have been receiveing communion almost daily now - sometimes twice in a day at Mass. The next four First Fridays seem to fall on days that I work so I see no human way possible for me to make them without God’s intervention.

Just wanted to correct myself and admit that no Communion on any day would be possible without God’s intervention - in fact neither I or any day would be possible without God creating them, so why should I worry or be anxious about the days ahead and if I will be able to make the devotion as if these are not also in God’s hands?

I am looking ahead for my second First Saturday in September 2011. All of you who have made it through please pray for us who are still on the way, because we need God’s intervention at each step because the devil surely hates this. If it happens that you interrupt your First Saturdays before completing the set of five of them consecutively, I think one must begin all over again??

About missing the First Saturday I would ask your priest so he can help you with that. Just a reminder that this weekend is the First Friday (5th consecutive for me) and First Saturday of September 2011. My work schedule is conflicting with First Friday and First Saturdays this month, but am praying to the Blessed Mother to work it out.

Just finished the Fifth consecutive First Friday Devotion for reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I seem to be thinking more about the reign of Jesus in Mary, and the right order of things. I am looking forward to next month.

Went to First Saturday devotions at the nearby Marian shrine here.

It was hotter than blue blazes inside the church. And because it was a four PM Mass, it was the anticipated Sunday Mass instead of a Marian votive Mass.

We did recite the Rosary aloud. Plus I spent fifteen minutes before the Rosary in the church before the Rosary began, meditating on the Visitation. For that, I probably should have found a statue of Mary under one of her titles on the grounds outside where it was a little cooler, and sat down there to meditate.

The church is having some upgrades done, so many of the statues are in storage. You had to look long and hard to find a statue of Mary in the church, which was pretty bizarre, since like I mentioned before, this IS a Marian shrine!

I had gone to confession Thursday afternoon.

I’m afraid the incredible heat and humidity (89 degrees outside with humidity of 90 percent, and hotter than that inside!) didn’t dispose me very well to being all that “present” at Mass, though, because I found myself dozing off a little during the sermon (which was, to my mind, inordinately long, given the conditions.)

I forced myself to stay awake and “offer it up.” The heat, I mean. I hope Our Lady understands. I figure Purgatory would probably be a lot hotter.

I hope October goes better than today did!
