I love that, Rose, about giving myself over to the Eucharist. Love that.
The Preface is the beginning of the Eucharistic prayer. Do you have the Baronius Press 1962 Missal? If so, I can give you the page number.Victorious–I found the page for the Preface, but where is it in the Ordinary of the Mass—you know, where they indicate the variable parts, or give an indication when it’s time to turn to another page…I can’t seem to find it.
Nope. The Preface for this Sunday is the Preface of the Most Holy Trinity on p. 884.Yes–page 933, right?
You are right.Nope. The Preface for this Sunday is the Preface of the Most Holy Trinity on p. 884.
What you’re looking at on p. 993 is the Common of Martyrs. Those are propers for the feast days of martyrs. The commons are sort of the default settings for feasts where there aren’t propers just for that particular saint whose feast it is. This would not ordinarily be used on a Sunday, because when a feast falls on a Sunday, Sunday takes precedence.
Just go! When I went to my first TLM I just observed and prayed along the certain parts I knew such as the Kyrie and Gloria. If you really want to use the Missal and follow along just follow the Ordinary of the Mass and find the readings for the day. You won’t learn everything there is to know overnight. Keep it simple.I’m thinking of going to my first TLM this Sunday (first for all practical purposes; I attended one as a Protestant child and have only the vaguest of memories). I do own a 1962 Roman Missal but I have no idea what pages to turn to to follow along.
Can anyone help? The church I’ll be going to is St. Francis de Sales in Mableton, Georgia. It’s about 2 hours from where I live–if anyone knows of other TLMs in northeast Georgia, please let me know! I’m just really nervous about this.
God bless![]()
I agree. That is a great feast on which to attend a Solemn Mass. We usually have a Missa Cantata on Sundays. I have enough servers assigned for Oct. 31 that we should be able to have incense and torchbearers. Our chaplain is always willing to use incense on the most important feasts.Make the trip to St. Francis de Sales for the feast of Christ the King on 31 October for the Solemn Mass. You won’t be sorry that you took the time.![]()
This is a wonderful site and I used this site to prepare for my first Latin Mass. It helped me immensely. Also, I don’t know if it has been suggested but dress up. For men this usually means a suit coat and tie. For women a conservative dress and bring a veil to cover her head. This website has a lot of information and you can see videos of the TLM:sanctamissa.org/en/
No it is not. But most women will wear one. In the FSSP parish of my area they do have “rental” veils at the foyer. The veil…this is required?
I am not sure what the technical rule is but at the Latin Church I attend almost every woman in attendance except one or two wears the veil. The pastor sometimes notes what attire should be worn in the bulletin and I believe he mentions the veil. Even if a veil is not technically required, which may be the case, almost all the women wear one. So to fit in and not cause or be distracted a woman might want to wear the veil. The veil…this is required?
