I’m not a Chrarismtic by any stretch, but please, the “smoke of Satan” can only have ONE context and that’s the one the Pope MEANT, not all the different ones people would have LIKED him to have meant. And the Church determines what is hers and what is “the smoke of Satan.” The misuse of the “smoke of Satan” calls to mind Dana Carvey’s “Church Lady” on Saturday Night Live (“could it be…SATAN???”). Maybe one should record dramatic, foreboding music (“Du-du-duh!”) to play every time it crops up in print.

Check out this website which addresses the problems with many of the Charismatic movements of today.

UNMASKING THE CHARISMATIC HERESY

“For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 - “False messiahs and false prophets will arise and will perform signs and wonders in order to mislead, if that were possible, the elect” Mark 13: 22 - “The smoke of Satan has entered the Church” Pope Paul VI

About Me

Muriel
Canada

I am a recovering charismatic and a Catholic Orthodox; observing orthopraxis to the best of my ability. I acknowledge what the Church REALLY DOES TEACH; opposed to what some people erroneously say the Church teaches. “Catholic Orthodoxy” is proposed “to conform to the Catholic faith as taught by the Magisterium of the Church. So an “orthodox” person is one who is FAITHFUL to the teachings of the Church, whereas a “heterodox” person is somebody who rejects ANY Catholic dogma. Orthopraxis means “Performing the correct actions”. Catholic Orthodoxy is defined by the Catechism: it tells us what we are supposed TO BELIEVE. Catholic Orthopraxis is denoted by the Code of Canon Law: it spells out what we are supposed TO DO. Because “Truth is not determined by a majority vote” – Pope Benedict XVI.
Very true but apparently that hasn’t stopped folks from doing it. PS. you better tell BenedictXVI that we are heretics-apparently he doesn’t know.
It’s open Season on charismatics by Traditionalists.
So as Elmer Fudd would say-
So be wery, wery quiet! Where hunting Charwismatics!ah,ah,ah!

It is not just that quote, but Scripture too is misquoted and proof-texted on that blog. I noticed that Mark 13:22 was even used by Jack Chick to support his belief as sound and those who disagree with him as the deceivers. It is a classic example of begging the question.

I think a more sound approach is to only discuss others as you would have them discuss you. One would think this is obvious, but frequently people demand more respect and better treatment than they are willing to give.
