Fisheaters.com is a very dangerous web site and should be avoided at all costs.

First, the forum owners hold an extreme ideology and are not official representatives of the Catholic Church.

(I am not even sure they are even Catholic, as they hide behind first names and don’t even publish a physical address to be contacted.)

They hold absolutely no authority whatsoever, and yet promote their radical ideas through this web site.

Worse yet, the web site promotes dangerous ideology contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Examples: Extensive criticism of the Pope’s ecumenical efforts. Extreme positions taken against the state of Israel. Heightened criticism against the Second Vatican Council. Extreme criticism expressed towards the liturgy of the Novus Ordo Mass.

It’s a very dangerous web site, and highly damaging to the faith. Stay away!
That’s just hogwash. You don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Fisheaters.com is a wonderful web site and should be visited whenever you have a question about your faith - you will always, without doubt, find orthodoxy there.

First, the forum owners hold an extremely traditional Catholic understanding of the faith, unlike most official representatives of the Catholic Church.

(I am not even sure most official reps of the Church are even Catholic, as they hide behind vague language, and seem accountable only unto themselves, with complete disregard for the long held truths of the Church.)

Fisheaters enjoys no recognition of their work from the authorities in the Catholic Church, and yet they have the strength, stamina and will to find out the truth, and spend the time building up an easily navigated knowledge base of Catholic tradition.

The web site promotes Catholic ideology completely in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Examples: Extensive criticism of the false ecumenical efforts. Heightened criticism against the Second Vatican Council. Extreme criticism expressed towards the liturgy of the Novus Ordo Mass.

It’s a very informative web site, and is fantastic for learning your Catholic faith. Stay away from anyone who denies this!

based on the information given, they are indeed a traditional Catholic site. They do recognize the current Pope and recognize Vatican II as a valid council. However they see error withing the documents of Vatican II and lean towards the FSSP and SSPX. Although the FSSP is in full communion with Rome, the SSPX has some flaws to be worked. This is a good site to learn many pre Vatican II traditions, but isn’t a credible source on information regarding the Vatican II council and its teachings
I am half-owner of the site (“Vox” there) and can assure you that the site says nothing about there being “errors” in Vatican II’s documents other than stating that some traditionalists do see errors there, some don’t, some believe there can’t possibly be errors there, and some trads (sedevacantists) don’t even see the Council as valid to begin with (see the page: fisheaters.com/traditionalcatholicism.html ) The site takes no editorial stance whatsoever on the documents of Vatican II other than to say the the Council was a valid Council convened by true Popes, but if we were to, what would be said would be right in line with what Pope Benedict XVI says: that there’s the Council, and then there’s the dangerous, false “spirit” of the Council which twisted the documents’ meanings and has been bad for the Church. The site is NOT an “SSPX site” (some forum members might go to Masses offered by the SSPX however. Some of the site’s discussion forum members might be Protestants, Jews, Muslims, pagans, or atheists for that matter. But the discussion forum is a discussion forum, *not *the website itself.)

StGerardMajella, this is all untrue. 100% except for your stating we have “no authority” (we also don’t claim any. See the site’s “About This Site” page). You are either severely mistaken, or you are engaging in calumny. There is no extreme ideology, there is no “hiding” behind first names just because we don’t want to be public figures (any more than “StGerardMajella” does), there is nothing – not one thing – “contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church,” there are no criticisms of the Second Vatican Council itself, etc. There is no “extreme positions taken against the state of Israel.” There is, however, criticism against the *rite *of new Mass, but nothing that even intimates it is invalid or such. You should take back what you say.

What false ecumenical efforts?? Provide examples from credible sources. They have no right to criticize Vatican II or the Novus Ordo mass. Pope Benedict XVI gave one committee to give constructive criticism and only that committee. We are obligated to accept the Vatican II council. I will not stand for sedevaticantistism

plus on top of what you said they only recognize the Douay-Rheims as the only English Catholic Bible
? Absolutely NOWHERE does the site say anything LIKE that. This is ridiculous! The site does *quote *the Douay, but so do Popes and the older Missals. The Douay is quoted and referenced because the site is a trad site for trad Catholics who attend the trad liturgy that is offered in dioceses and chapels around the world.

We don’t criticize Vatican II, though we have every right to criticize what’s been done since the Council and what’s been done falsely in the name of the Council. Besides which, I think the poster you are quoting was quoting someone else and didn’t edit properly.

Further, we do have the right to criticize the new liturgy. The Holy Father himself does. When he was still a Cardinal, he said, “in the place of liturgy as the fruit of development came fabricated liturgy. We abandoned the organic, living process of growth and development over the centuries and replaced it — as in a manufacturing process — with a fabrication, a banal on-the-spot product.”

If anyone here thinks fisheaters.com should be included on the list of banned linked sites please P.M. me and I will present this to the mods.

so you are a member the committee that Pope Benedict XVI gave permission to constructively criticize Vatican II?? If not you are wrong

What should be banned is outright lying and calumny, e.g., calling them sedevacantists. Which is especially ridiculous because sedevacantism is a banned topic on their website.

And whoever suggested that they “aren’t Catholics”, well, I’d bet they would be kicked off this site for saying that about anyone else, but it was just some nasty trads, so it’s ok.

This is such an interesting point. Can you please reference the document where the Pope granted exclusivity in critical thought and expression re: the rites, rituals, and disciplines of the Church? Thanks in advance.

Like I said, “We don’t criticize Vatican II, though we have every right to criticize what’s been done since the Council and what’s been done falsely in the name of the Council. Besides which, I think the poster you are quoting was quoting someone else and didn’t edit properly” Do you understand this language? Is there anything unclear here? Should I Babelfish it?

If I sound snippy, it’s because I am. I am sick and tired of seeing posts like this that misrepresent (at best) or calumniate (at worst) years and years of hard work. Research things* for yourselves*. Read the “About this Site” page. Read the website. And don’t mistake the website itself for the opinions of discussion forum members. It’s all very simple.

Vox, I just wanted to say I admire what you do and the work you have put into your site, and I am saddened by the lies and misinformation being spread by some here.

JMJ

I have to agree with my wife, savienu. I love fisheaters.com and I am more active there then here. I find solid Catholics there, some fluff heads here, and while some are off the top, so too here. I love the chatroom and the information contained there.

fisheaters.com is an absolute joke - just read the discussion forums where you see one post after another blasting Vatican II, the Novus Ordo, etc. if you are truly the site owner, get control over your discussion forums.

and the discussion forums are a MAJOR part of the content of the fisheaters web site. links to new topics are right on the front page.

as I said, a very dangerous web site by a group of extremists, with no authority whatsoever granted from the Catholic Church. it’s a trap for false teachings claiming to be Catholic.

plus on top of what you said they only recognize the Douay-Rheims as the only English Catholic Bible
I’m sure if that was the case they wouldn’t have a topic about what translation you prefer for personal use, and the responses include several people choosing translations other than Douay-Rheims.

They accept Vatican II as well as the Popes who oversaw the Council and their successors. I’d recommend you calm down a little and watch your false accusations however for it could very possibly present an occasion of sin for you…

Give an example of one of these false teachings.

Look - if you do not like the site - don’t go. But calling it a “dangerous” site run by “extremists” is - well… extreme.

Awesome - critisizing others faith by slinging insults. Way to prove your point.

where do you want me to start? try reading the discussion forums - links on the front page.

you won’t have to look too far on these sick discussion forums to find extremism and rhetoric against Vatican II, the Novus Ordo, Pope John Paul II, ecumenism, etc.

if this web site didn’t defame the Catholic Church, I wouldn’t have to be so critical. run by a bunch of amateurs with no authority from the Catholic Church itself.

i am not criticizing anyone’s faith - i am criticizing the content of the fisheaters web site, which is the topic under discussion.
