Where does it say Thou Shalt Not Kill fish?
Weren’t the Apostles fisherman?

The Church does not have a strong tradition of concern for animal welfare. But in recent years there have been a few statements.

If you are concerned about fishing with live bait because it hurts the live bait then you shouldn’t be fishing. That hook hurts the fish.

So no sin.

Might I suggest reading about the following Saints? St. Francis of Assisi, St. Phillip Neri, St. Gertrude of Nievalles, and St. Anthony of Egypt. They are just an example of Saints that are associated with animals and ecological well-being.

I didn’t’ say they didn’t use live bait.
Do you think that the Apostles did use live bait or was it only nets without any bait? Many vegans today say that fishing is cruel and painful to the fish. That is one reason they advocate that people eat only vegetables and plant based food. Should we just forget about the pain and suffering of the fish as it is caught and harvested?

I never really like it because I guess I over empathized with the worm and fish. I haven’t fished since I was about 14.

I fish here and there but I’ve never used live bait. I’m slightly squeemish about it. I suppose I could do it if I had to though. 😔

Squeamish? I am totally Squeamish. I cut my finger once and fainted.

Oh.

Good.

Grief.

We should not act cruelty towards our food. But they are food.

And we’re actually figuring out that many plants can “feel” things. So the whole thing is a bit emotionally charged with a severe lack of logic.

How is that painful to the tree if an apple drops or is picked gently from the tree? That seems to me to be totally different from the horrific suffering and pain that a fish must feel as it is caught and cut up.
