London, Jun 17, 2008 ([CNA](Five Hundred Priests Threaten to Leave Anglican Church over Female Bishops)).- The Times of London reported this week that the Anglican Church is facing a new crisis with 500 priests threatening to leave if women are ordained bishops.

The newspaper reported that the priests have said they would leave the Church if the proposal is approved at the next general synod scheduled for July of this year.

Many priests said they feel betrayed by the proposal, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams and Archbishop John Sentamu of York have responded by saying they would work for a compromise rather than allow female bishops, even though both are in favor of female clergy. more…

I wonder what they’ll do after they leave.

Gay bishops, Women clergy, who’s the authority?
In the Anglican Church it is the Bishops and Clergy. The title is the same no matter what gender or sexual orientation they are. Their bishops and clergy authority are the same in the Anglican Church (according to their current Church law) as the current all-male clergy is in the Catholic Church (according to the current Canon Law).

My brother’s parish has a married priest with five children. He came into the priesthood under an Archdiocesan program for Anglican priests and Protestant ministers who convert to the Catholic faith.🙂

I feel sorry for the Anglicans in Britain, their clergy are leading them astray…

While I am sorry for the problem the Anglicans find themselves in, maybe this will help allieviate our own “priest shortage”.

Hope they come back home.
No doubt some will, but most will probably go the way of the Continuing Anglicans. I sure would welcome them, though. England needs, as does America, men of conviction in the priesthood.

My husband’s uncle was an Anglican priest. He was a missionary in Korea for 40+ years.

I’m not sure how he would have felt in this situation.

What compromise?. You either have them or not. The whole basis of the Anglican Church is based off of compromises. Compromise one thing then compromise another. They should stop compromising and come back home to Rome. Where there is no compromising. Just truth!.

May sound silly, but praise God for this. The total collapse of the Episcopal Church was one of the things that brought me to the true Church. When you see what happens in these places without the Rock that is the Chair of Peter, it makes you see the Papacy in a whole new light.
