While it wasn’t right for the confidant to “spill the beans”, instead of keeping it confidential, St. Paul is very clear in I Cor. chapter 5 about church discipline. Also look at Matt. 18:15-17. They actually followed the Biblical example set by the apostle Paul in Holy Scriptures.

I don’t think so only misguided ones. My wife is Protestant and she doesn’t tell.

Why so defensive?

Main line Protestant Churches don’t do this. This is a non-denominational denomination.
 
:hmmm: I’m not sure why she’s worried about what her church does; if she’s talking to national news media I’d say she’s doing a perfectly fine job of making her own sins public.

I was being sarcastic. Sorry. I would agree with you. Some people just need to tell on others.

She left her church and by reading the whole article I must say, I would have left a long time ago.

Actually she is pretty smart by going national. She beat them to it, so what can they threaten her with next?

To harass the women and even stalk her by watching her house at night, even after she broke away from them on her own free will, is deplorable.

Seems to me every one there was already gossiping and knew her business. She had nothing to lose and all to gain by going national. They look like idiots now.

And maybe by doing this it will help others. It may also help her children who attend there see how unhealthy those people are.

So, this wasn’t going to be a national publication or proclamation. It was to be within the congregation, which is keeping with the Scriptures I’ve already quoted. But, it seems that since she went absolutely “public” with it, she’s the one pushing it further into the public arena. That’s not what the church elders were going to do.

I thought “bring it to the Church” meant “bring it to the attention of the Pastor, or the Bishop”; in other words, to the ones who, having been ordained Shepherds and Priests who are able to act in persona Christi, are best able to discern and advise in Spiritual Matters.
 
This is sickening. Yes, she should have stopped seeing her boyfriend, but she was trying. Did anyone help her? I don’t know. But she finally knew she couldn’t hack life in that church (or most others) and left. She was gone for two months. Then they said they would make her sins a public issue. She wasn’t their church member anymore. They had no authority to discipline her at all.
I hope she finds a church that respects her privacy and that helps her to get her life under control.
 
I have read a few hundred years ago a sinner would have to do penance standing outside the Church before mass with a sign written what their sin is.

Some people had to do this for years before the priest would give them absolution.

So I guess were pretty lucky today.

I really for sorry for her kids who have to leave their friends at that church.

Wow, that would not be comfortable. And, I think you’re right. We have it pretty lucky today considering. While I’m not a stare and point kind of person when it comes to calling people out on their sins, this kind of humiliation would make you think twice about your sins. It would do one of two things - make you repent or make you turn away completely from all that is holy. But, as professing Christians, that is our cross.

Absolutely. This looks like a form of spiritual abuse and good on this lady for beating them to the punch and getting the story out there herself. Hopefully it will be fair warning to anyone who was considering attending this church to maybe seek a more normal spiritual home.

EXACTLY! And doesn’t it bother anyone else that these people would spend the night in their cars, spying on her, seeing if she came home at night or not? MAJOR creep factor and a form of stalking!

And she only told one person, her mentor, about her woes. And they do an intervention, surround her with a room full of people as if she is on trial who have already been told everything?

Personally I believe many live vicariously through the sins of others. I also believe they used prayer and intervention as an excuse to gossip.

She did not force her kids to leave, they still attend. I would worry about them too.

It is just sick.

These quotes are fragmented and could be about generally about how the church handles discipline. We only have her side of the story.

Churches have historically discipline in different ways. We do NOT know what specifically this church does as they are not commenting on this particular case/situation.

This board has jumped to a conclusion based on partial information from a woman who rejects biblical teachings and has her own agenda. I bet some here think her kids are very young, but they are actually adults. And I think her “concerns” over their feelings and sensibilities is too little too late.

What we should do is pray for all concerned and wait for all the information. Until then, we should just pray for the Church and this woman to be guided by the Holy Spirit and if any wrong doing has been done…some repenting needs to happen. I pray the Holy Spirit will convict her of her sin and she will repent. She, according to the News article appears not able to repent or possibly willing. If the Church and/or its leaders have sin, then they need to repent. The same article does not reveal any definite “sins” of this church body. Only the word of an unrepentant woman who seems very willing for the world to know about what she has done.

So, let us put up our torches and pitchforks.

And drop those rocks!!!😃

Did you happen to read the letter that was sent to the woman? There is a link to the letter in the Fox News article.

I find the tone of their letter to be pompus and condecending at best, and it does list the woman’s indiscretion, and how they plan to remedy it.

I also find it interesting that the letter is not even signed by an individual or individuals, but merely The Elders of Grace…

If in fact, the woman did submit a letter of resignation to the church, then they should drop the issue, because she is no longer a member of their flock.

Catholic Confession to a priest, who is acting in the person of Christ, looks so beautiful from there.

Actually, it’s just beautiful, full stop.

I am just so grateful to God for being led to the Catholic Church.

I would probably be arrested by these guys and thrown in a cellar for life if I ever had to confess to someone like them :o

I wonder how many eyes they’ve gouged out recently :rolleyes:

I found it a bit weird they/she - allowed her address to be published on the internet.

AND they got the date of the year wrong in the letter.

Now, if they can be wrong with a simple thing like a date, what else could they be wrong about :rolleyes:
