Well all know, it’s not okay to bomb an abortion clinic/planned parenthood or shoot an abortion doctor. But for Pro-Death Penalty Catholics, why is it okay to execute a criminal? I mean their both “murderers” by Catholic standard, right?

Sorry, I am not so sure that shooting an abortion doctor would be wrong where abortion/killings of unborn is allowed. Shooting Hitler would be wrong?

In a “normal” society, you do not need to kill a criminal.

But war times have war rules.

Because a criminal is being put to death by Society has had a court case amongst their peers that determined they were guilty of a crime. For now the killers in abortion clinics aren’t considered murderers so acting against them would only hurt any attempt to make abortion illegal.

The right to execute criminals, according to the Catholic Church, belongs to the State, not to indivuals.

Therefore, an abortionist would be entitled to a fair trial by the State to determine guilt before any punishment for their crime is inflicted.

CAF is the only place I know where after the Pope calls for capital punishment to be abolished people still support it.

How very perplexing. 🤷

In fact the Roman Catholic Church has officially called for and end to the death penalty. Soon to be Saint John Paul spoke of this many times.

I’d be careful how you’d word that. I said very similar things back when I first joined on an older thread. I am firmly against capital punishment.,

You wouldn’t believe how Catholics on here go out of their way to insist the death penalty was still valid and why they supported sticking the needle into someone. Despite the fact USCCB is against capital punishment and the Pope has called for it to be abolished.

Scary stuff. 🤷

I’m sorry you’re wrong. The Church has officially come out against the death penalty.

Personally, I would much rather be on a forum that has a soft stance on the death penalty then a forum that has a pro-abortion, pro-same sex union or a pro-contraception stance.

In the political world, we have to pick our evils. I like to avoid the intrinsic ones.

Oh please, I’ve heard some support George Bush’s torture policy because those being tortured were Muslim… Some of these people are just Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs ! 😉

How is being against the death penalty soft?! And why are you implying that opposing capital punishment makes someone believe all those things you mentioned?! 🤷

That certainly says it all.

I can’t think of anything more hypocritical than to be “pro-life” for an unborn baby and be for the death penalty essentially being “pro-death.” You can’t have it both ways you are either pro-life or not. Pro-life should mean all life but I guess for some maniacs government controlled murder is fine. Hypocrites who would cast the first stone. I’ts just so unbelievable to me that I words aren’t sufficient to describe the hypocracy in that line of thinking. Wow, good topic. I bet the pro death people will come out of the woodwork to say why killing a human being is okay. I can’t wait to read the responses.

The one thing that I have noticed in my short time on CAF is that it doesn’t represent the average Catholic by any stretch of the imagination. Many members here remind be of the High Priests during the time of Jesus.

You have no idea how tempted I’ve been to say that to some people on here 😛

When I said “soft” I meant that (in my experience) the people on CAF seem to have a “soft” opposition to the death penalty (I think most people on here oppose the death penalty, but the issue doesn’t occupy the forefront of their political agenda).

Also, the death penalty is NOT an intrinsic evil. The pope has never called for it to be abolished and has always given the state the final decision administering capital punishment. That’s not to say that catholics should support it, just that the issue is NOT intrinsically evil and should occupy a lower priority on people’s political agenda’s.

The reality is that there are two political parties in the United States. One supports the death penalty and a few issues on social justice that the church opposes, but generally condemns gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia, stem-cell research, etc… The other party opposes the death penalty and arguably has the moral high ground in areas of social justice but condones a whole swath of intrinsically EVIL policies. It is very clear which political party Catholics have the moral obligation to vote for.

Just to be clear, I think it’s fine to speak out against the death penalty, but given the current political climate we have a duty to also inform catholics that the death penalty should occupy much lower priority on their voting agenda then issues of intrinsic evil. To fail to do this could lead people to vote for a pro-death political party and, thus, give scandal to mortal sin.
