Clare,
I know your pain having been abandoned by both of my parents at a young age and when they were in my life , they weren’t. Alcoholism and sins of the flesh afflicted them both.
They are both deceased now and although it has taken some time, I now pray for their souls daily and with much sincerity and love. Because I believe in the unconditional love that Jesus has for me, I can now love them freely without judging their bad decisions in life.
At one time, I asked Jesus in prayer, “Why Lord? Why would my parents abandon me? Why would they put the love of a boyfriend or girlfriend before the love for their own child? I finally saw through my tears, with great joy, that the Lord was holding his arms out to me and saying, " I have never, and will never abandon you and my love for you is always, and unconditional”. Since then Clare, I have been able to say the following prayer for my parents every day and I know that one day, with the help of prayer and Gods mercy, we will be that family that I had always longed for, in heaven.

O God, who has commanded us to honor our father and mother, in your mercy have pity on the souls of my father and mother, and forgive them their sins; and bring me to see them in the joy of eternal brightness, through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Forgiveness might not be instantaneous but I believe it will come and the fruit will be sweet.

So sorry to hear this. I understand: I’ve been through something similar.
Just wanting to pray for your mother and asking for prayer shows
that your heart is in the right place.
