What does Constantine have to do with Orthodoxy?
I think we are in agreement that Constantine’s Edict of Milan allowed the Council of Nicea to occur. However, orthodoxy existed prior to that, so you have not answered my question, what does Constantine have to do with Orthodoxy?
I hardly know what to say when folks try about pull that kind of stunt - that unless I agree with your opinion, I think God lies or reneges. It’s not really worthy of a response.
I agree, it is not a worthy accusation against our Lord. If He was a weakling, then His promise that the gates of hell not prevailing was worthless. If He is a liar, then His promise to send the Spirit who would remind them of all that He had taught, and lead them into all Truth is worthless. These promises have nothing to do with my opinion. Either Jesus made the promises or He didn’t. Either He had the love and power to fulfill them, or He didn’t.

The words used in the bible - especially the Septuigint used by early Christians are:
Apostasia: a falling away, defection, apostasy
Planao: to lead away from the truth, to lead into error, to deceive
Aphistemi: rebellion or departing
Great! Thanks. Now at least we can agree on what we are talking about. So, from my point of view, it seems that, in order to fall away or defect, then one needs to be embracing the Truth in the first place. If one is in rebellion, then one has to identify an authority.
What I think we are in disagreement about is the nature of the Truth from which they fell, and who exactly fell. You have asserted that Christianity was factious from the beginning. Apostasy does not have to occur in order for there to be factions.
The Bible was written before the apostasy.
Ok, for the sake of discussion, let us agree on this point, even though other posts you have made indicate to the contrary. Even if the Bible was written prior to the “apostasy”, the books were collected, preserved, canonized and promulgated by the supposed apostasized. Why would they do all this, if their beliefs were contrary to what is written?

But this is one good way to set the stage, if you really don't have any facts to back yourself up on your flimsy assertion.

I've got plenty of debates going on with lightweights, If your simply going to label (flimsy) instead of dialogue, I'll take a pass.
This was an important element for my enrichment. Prior to this thread, I did not understand anything about what the LDS believed about “the Great Apostasy”. Now I am clear that it is a “matter of faith” that cannot be proven, and has no basis in scripture or history.
That’s a good question and I don’t think it has been answered well yet - though I haven’t read all the posts from those contributing to the topic. I intend to spend some time this week crafting a considered response.
I look forward.:coffeeread:
