Hail Mary,

Full of Grace,

The Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou amongst women,

and blessed is the fruit

of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary,

Mother of God,

pray for us sinners now,

and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

V. Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful; grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins, that by our devout supplications they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired. Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.

V. Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them.
V. May they rest in peace.
R. Amen.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. x10

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Prayed Morning Prayer from the Office For the Dead for the souls in Purgatory today.

Visited a cemetery and prayed for the holy souls.

(During daily Mass , at the Consecration I consistently ask our Blessed Lord - through the infinite merits of His most Precious Blood to please have mercy on the souls in Purgatory - especially the most desolate ones.)

Father,
Source of forgiveness and salvation for all mankind,
hear our prayer.
By the prayers of the ever-virgin Mary,
may our friends,relatives and benefactors
who have gone from this world
come to share eternal happiness with all your saints.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit -
one God, forever and ever.
AMEN

Hail Mary,
Full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb -

“Let us not hesitate to help those who have died and to offer our prayers for them.”

—St. John Chrysostom

Tomorrow being Ash Wednesday, and for anyone who might be interested (and have 5 minutes or less to spare) over at onepeterfive there is a compelling article written by Timothy Flanders entitled We Share in the Suffering of the Poor Souls in Purgatory.

The way Mr. Flanders connects the public penance of ancient times to Ash Wednesday and ultimately to our charity for the holy souls is sure to strike a mystically edifying chord deep within those of us who already share a measure of this charity.
Here’s an excerpt taken from the beginning of the article:
The foundation of our love and devotion for the poor souls in purgatory is this: “If one member suffer any thing, all the members suffer with it; or if one member glory, all the members rejoice with it” (I Cor. 12:26).

This is the bond of charity that binds the Church Militant to the Church Suffering and the Church Triumphant. Just as we glory in the saints and are uplifted by their victories on Earth and in Heaven, we also suffer with the souls detained in the prison of Purgatory. This is the meaning of the word “compassion”: to suffer with. Bound to them by Christian charity, our souls burn to share in their sufferings and alleviate their burdens.

A well known liturgical tradition bears this out perfectly: Ash Wednesday. In ancient times, a public sinner guilty of grave sin was required to do public penance in ashes for a number of years before being received again to Holy Communion. Gradually the faithful, zealous with charity, sought to place upon themselves also this penance to share the burden of their penitent brethren. As it is written, Bear ye one another’s burdens; and so you shall fulfil the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2). Thus did Ash Wednesday become the corporate imposition of ashes as it is today. It is this charity that must burn within us on behalf of the poor souls.

Oh my Jesus,
forgive us our sins,
lead all souls heavenward,
especially those like me;
in any state of being & knowledge & accountability,
like me in and for those most in need of Your Fulfilled Mercy.
Amen.
