I figured out this by accident and thought I would pass it along.
First of all, I always have a flavored filtered water in a gallon jug in the fridge because we need to drink more water and hubby hates the taste—so I add 3 tablespoons of vanilla extract or 2 teaspoons of raspberry, strawberry or orange extract to a gallon of filtered water (Britta)–no sugar just the extracts. Also if I don’t have a jug of drink mix like lemonade or koolaid or iced tea made up he will make a glass at a time which kinda screws up the proportion of powder for when I do make a gallon, so I end up with a little of this one or a little of that one left but not enough to make a full gallon.

So anyway yesterday I was craving something other than flavored water and I had enough lemonade mix to make 2 quarts and enough iced tea mix to make 1 quart so I decided to mix them and make a weak gallon of lemonade-tea. But I had no ice cubes and wanted it cold so I used the water I had in the fridge which happened to be vanilla flavored. Oh my! the resulting drink tasted like lemon meringue pie or lemon donuts! Wow…between the two of us that lasted about an hour!

So my recommend for you all today is IF you can tolerate vanilla extract–make some weak drink mix flavor and add the vanilla to the batch and YUM! Bet orange or strawberry Koolaid is good with the vanilla too! And it probably tastes like a Purple Cow with grape drink mix! (Purple Cows are ice-cream sodas made with grape soda and vanilla ice-cream…)

👍

Yummy! I’ve been buying the sugar free lemondade and loving it. I’m going to give this a try. Thanks!

a favorite hot weather drink besides everlasting tea is to add a generous heaping tablespoon of frozen white grape juice concentrate to a gallon of filtered water, shake the jug, and refrigerate, just tastes “colder” than regular water, very refreshing, but low carb. the lemon flavor sounds great, and sounds like what we used to call cream soda, vanilla flavoring and ground ginger added to cold water and spritzed with some club soda. (that is not real creamsoda from the East coast, but the way we did it)

Lol, sounds good!!! I will try it some time. BTW, I had never done/thought of the flavored water (extract) thing but sounds good, without adding sugar, but gives it a taste… I have to do that too! (We are trying to lose weight now, so we aren’t doing the drink mixes now, though I might try it with a mix with Splenda in it). Thanks for the ideas!

You could have made a tidy sum with that recipe…but it was very nice of you to share…

🙂

Mix all what you have mentioned, including the ice tea and kool aid

Oh my gosh I am experiencing a major DUH moment…why didn’t I ever think of this??? I am drinking water like crazy whilst trying to loose some weight and all I’ve come up with is some lemon squeezed in it. Vanilla extract sounds like just the change I need!

The rest of your recipe sounds great too:thumbsup:
vanilla flavoring and ground ginger added to cold water and spritzed with some club soda.
this sounds soooooo good! I love ginger anything. How much of each ingredient do you use?

It’s funny to come across this because last summer, my then-16 yo ds enjoyed being the only one to know his “secret ingredient” that made lemonade so much better. I found out because our 5 yo found out, and 5 yo’s don’t always understand the concept of keeping a secret! He was so sorry to have told when he saw that he’d ended his brother’s fun! But the secret ingredient was vanilla. I didn’t try it since I never drink sugary drinks like that, but the other kids loved it.

Water flavored with extract - interesting! I’ll give that a try!
