Dancer, you are very fortunate to have a family that at least recognizes a need FOR baptism. In some parts of the United States children can fight their parents will to be baptized if they claim it is forceful. The values of Catholics should be upheld! I hope you succeed.

I’m going through something similar but my family when they found out they weren’t very happy with my decision but they are starting to come around if you’re not baptized or have no proof you can have a coincidental baptism (in my case ) you still will be welcomed into the church after you go through RCIA program at your parish. Hopefully this helps:)

You mean a “conditional Baptism”. 😃

And spell check your religion (Protestant).

Otherwise, thanks for the nice post. 👍

Hello everyone.

Thank you for your kind messages, support, and prayers.

I have told my parents that I do not want be baptized. Baptism for my brother and I has not happen as of now. This does not mean we are out of the woods yet.

I have told them that I want to join the Catholic Church. They questioned my decision and have not been accepting of it at all. They are trying to use baptism in an attempt to “cure,” “heal,” and/or “wash away” disability (development disabilities and learning disabilities) since they believe disability (all types) are evil, part of witchcraft/occultism, cursed and not a “gift” from God.

My parents also said they have refused to help me with the driving process and obtaining a a compact/sub-compact car (small car). I do not have any other family members. I do not have any friends or acquaintances as they have all moved away and are busy with life. I am really all alone in this process of trying to live an independent life and being independent.

Please continue to pray for me as the matter is far from over. Thank you.

What happens when the baptism doesn’t cure you? Please consider reaching out to adult social services and telling them everything you’ve told us. I’m afraid things might escalate when you aren’t “cured” by baptism.

I’ve added you to my prayer list.

Peace
B

Hello All,

Thank you for your most sincere prayers.

I have an update to share.

My brother with autism was baptized without his consent on the morning of June 3, 2017, even though he is 22 years old.

Later throughout the day, there was a mandatory church fellowship (I don’t really enjoyed this fellowship, but I still live with my parents even though I am currently employed full-time while still looking for a job in my chosen field and trying to finish/overcome the obstacle of getting a driver’s license with the support I need as in help outside of the family to achieve this. However, I still live under their roof and their rules; so I have to do what I am told) and the leader of the church fellowship (this is my parent’s church, not mine) was forcing to get baptized. This male individual was of African descent.

He said to me: “You and I are going to get baptized next week.” I firmly stand my ground and told him that I will get baptized when the time is right. When it is God’s time (divine timing). The male individual was telling me, “God’s time is now” and was attempting to use the Protestant bible as evidence to coerce and convince me to be baptized.

The church my parents and brother goes to see baptism as the way to solve all of your problems, witchcraft, occultism, and anything that comes in to mind.

I respectfully and firmly told this person that I will be baptized on my own time - meaning when the time is right. Human timing and divine timing are not the same.

I told him simply no. I told him that one day I will be baptized. That time is not now, not tomorrow, not next week, not this year, not this month, not next month and etc. That time will be in the future when I am ready (with RCIA and everything - meaning when I have full 100% freedom and independence from my parents and living independently on my own and out of from their control/power/home).

Please continue to pray for me that I will one day be baptized with the Roman Catholic church and successfully complete RCIA with the willingness to be baptized when the time is right.

Thank you, and please continue to pray for me.

You are doing well finding your way!

My Sincerest Prayers:
Our Father who art in heaven…
Hail Mary, full of grace… Hail Mary, full of grace… Hail Mary, full of grace…
Glory Be to the Father…
Amen…

Good job! 👍 Stand firm in your decision and the Holy Spirit will help you overcome your problems and give you strength to get through this. Are there any driving schools in your area that can help you learn to drive in a more comfortable car? Now that you have a job, you can pay for the lessons yourself; the school should also help with the test by providing the car and taking you down to the dmv for the test.

I agree with the above and join in continued prayers for you. Thanks for the update and I am glad things went the way they did for you. May God be with you as you work to achieve your goals and

God Bless,

Mary.

Am I to understand that the leadership of that religious community would agree to coerce you to be baptized in their community?

The answer to your question is yes. That religious community is a specific Protestant/Pentecostal church that is predominantly African.

I told the leader no multiple times and explained my reasons to him multiple times. I simply stood my ground.

I’'m VERY far from being an expert on brothers condition. However if he is determined not to be mentally competent to make such a decision on his own; then the “forcing” by intent was proper and essential for brothers POSSIBLE salvation; hence a very good thing.👍

He said to me: “You and I are going to get baptized next week.” I firmly stand my ground and told him that I will get baptized when the time is right. When it is God’s time (divine timing). I’m presuming this was not a Catholic Baptism; still so long as it was a TRUE Christian Baptism: Mt 28:19-20 "

Matt.28 Verses 19 to 20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them [WITH Water in the sign of the Cross AND] in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” the is is a Valid Christian Baptism.

The effects of a Christian Baptism are a One TIME [up to the point of the Baptism] remission [removal and complete forgiveness of ALL prior sins and the effect of all sins up to that point [the temporal punishment ALL sins accrue] …so at that point the Soul is made literally PERFECT, until and or unless that Soul sins again

Catholics have the gift and grace of Sacramental Confession [GODS DESIRED METHOD FOR SIN FORGIVENESS]for any and all sins committed after Baptism, for complete sin forgiveness as well as Indulgences to offset the temporal punishment those sin acquire:thumbsup:.
Please continue to pray for me that I will one day be baptized with the Roman Catholic church and successfully complete RCIA with the willingness to be baptized when the time is right.

My dear friend, you are putting your eternal salvation at unnecessary [and from GOD"S perspective, unwanted risk.

The Bible [BOTH the Catholic and Protestant versions] are precisely clear that Baptism is a ABSOLUTE [as the NORM] requirement for ones Salvation.

John.3: 5 "Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."

Because GOD, not you, not me, none of is in control of our death; ONLY God knows when it will be… So to presume upon God’s MERCY; that He will permit you to be Baptized when it is convenient to YOU, is a serious sin of presumption… And as you desire to become a Catholic, you would be able to take advantage of Sacramental Confession; one of the truly GREAT reasons to be an informed and fully practicing Catholic [the Other is the Eucharist], Jesus, GOD Himself in Person.

So my friend, you would be wise to PRAY about your Baptism, and listen to the Holy Spirit’s promptings to you:gopray:

God Bless you,
Patrick

It looks like you will have to get a job and move out of the house and live on your own.

Tell the Pastor who is performing the baptism that you do not wish to be baptized. End point. If they try to drag you to the church to be baptized, leave. Also, if your brother is a minor or unable to speak for himself, call social services. Tell social services everything about your brother’s condition, your home life, and your parents’ beliefs. You deserve better than this. As a Protestant, I am ashamed of their behavior. This is disgusting.

Thank you for your prayers/message.

As for driving schools, I am searching for ones that will help get me obtain the 15 hours required by my state (Even though I am 25 years old, I do want the 60 hours though just to get more driving experience since this is required for individuals younger than 25.) I noticed that there are very new driving schools in my area. I am concerned of giving them my money simply because driving schools in my area are too new, or doesn’t have a good representation/provide inaccurate information, simply want my hard-earned money. I don’t want anyone to cheat me or me cheating myself. Then, there are some driving schools that if you want 60 in-car driving lessons hours. You have to pay $1499 each time. I am looking at driving schools where you only pay one time package for all 60 hour driving lessons which should be 1,000-2,000 dollars which I have the money to pay since I am working and all of the funds will be going into a savings account.

What questions should I ask the driving school in my area beyond being accredited in the state?

What questions should driving schools and learning differences?

What should I look for in a driving school and a certified driving instructor, especially for a young adult with a learning disability?
