Let the circle be unbroken! From prep basketball to the pros and back again.

"It’s not until the seldom-used St. Ignatius players that Johnny Bach is coaching on a volunteer basis break for water that the former longtime Bulls assistant stops to rub his chest.

“Man,” he says with a defiant chuckle. “That was stupid.”

Bach just had elbowed a player in a post-up drill to emphasize a point.

“I’m trying to get them excited,” Bach says. “But I just had melanoma spots removed and I have stitches in my chest.”

Bach will turn 86 in July. He’s four seasons removed from his second and final Bulls stint that placed a period on a remarkable, 56-year coaching career. Or so the basketball world thought."

:clapping: A fellow parishoner turned 91 yesterday. He just “retired” as an usher at church. He is very active and still works in his garden. Maybe there is still some hope for us middle aged guys.😃

I don’t think I could deal with ‘raging hormone’, Catholic high school athletes when I’m in my eighties. Perhaps dealing with the Bulls was good preparation for this guy.

His patience probably allowed him to live and be active so long. A virtue, unfortunatly, that I don’t have. :o
