Foreign Office Suspends Diplomat Anjoum Noorani Over Memo Mocking Pope

An update:

The diplomat who authorised a memo mocking the Pope has been suspended by the Foreign Office after Catholics reacted with fury to its contents.

Anjoum Noorani, 31, has been told to stay at home while the department carries out a misconduct investigation.

Well, its a first step. The suspension is only pending an investigation of misconduct, but at least the investigation is taking place. I do think that punishments need to be meted out, and prior news reports suggested that it wasn’t happening.

Quite agree with you. I can only breathe a sigh of relief as a taxpayer and a member of the Catholic community that, at least, the FCO is now seen to be doing something.
