Wow…that is a really beautiful piece. I hope it’s real, but even if it isn’t, it’s a very nicely made piece of art.

That is the only thing he can be certain of.
The tapestry contains a calendar of 365 relics of the saints, one saint’s relic for each day of the year.
And in the center of the roughly 2-foot-by-3-foot tapestry are what are supposed to be the relics of the actual crucifixion of Jesus: a piece of the Crown of Thorns, the sponge used to dab his lips, and a sliver of the cross itself, all woven into the cloth.

how could something like this have been overlooked and hidden away for so many years?
glad that it has been found again. a beautiful piece of art.

I can’t even imagine finding something like this that was locked away a 100 years ago. What a present from Rome!
Good afternoon,

Ooohh, it’s beautiful. Such precision handiwork!

I wonder if the nuns in that convent are still looking around that basement for any documentation? You’d think there’d have been a letter with it, from the sender to the Bishop.

God loves all of you, lurkers, too,
Don

I wonder how many pieces there are of the sponge that was used to moisten Jesus’ lips. This surely is a one-in-a million reliquary! I hope that it tours the country – and the world --after those in Buffalo have had a chance to view it.
