Former Anglicans ordained Catholic priests

New ordinations of 4 priests into the Ordinariate!

It seems (at least by what I’ve read), that in the past year the Ordinariate in the U.S. [EDIT: and Canada… I should’ve just said American :doh2:, this particular news is happening in Canada] has roughly doubled in size. The Ordinary, Msgr. Jeffrey Steenson estimates that there are around 3,500 lay members of the Ordinariate, and expects the number of priests (now 53) to rise to around 60 by summer of this year.

As of last February, it was reported that the U.S. [/Canadian] Ordinariate had 30 priests, and around 1,600 laymen.

Will all ordinariate priests be going to ordinariate parishes? It seems there are more priests than parishes. Will any of them be able to say Mass at a diocesan parish?

Of course they will be able to say mass there, but there is no indication that they will bee assigned to ordinary parishes.

I read that in the Ordinariate in the U.K., that many of the priests are working full time in prison/ hospital ministry. As, they have more priests than parishes over there as well. I imagine that this has to be at least somewhat true of the one in America. But, I could be wrong.

I would think they would most likely reply with simply “Catholic.” I’ve also heard some refered as “Catholic - Anglican Rite” and “Anglican Rite Catholic” (even though it is simply of a Form of the Roman Rite and not its own Rite).

Remember, “Roman” really refers to the Rite *(which of course the **Anglican Use **is officially apart of). *

I can forsee in the future people calling themselves “Anglican Rite Catholic,” “Anglican Catholic in Communion with Rome,” “Anglican-Latin Catholic,” “Anglican-Roman Catholic,” “Latin-Anglican Catholic,” “Roman-Anglican Catholic,” “English Catholic,” etc.

But in the grand scheim of things it really doesn’t matter as long as they are in Communion with the Pope.

That may be true and Traditional Anglican parishes tend to be pretty small to begin with. If you divide 3500 / 60 you get about 60 parishioners per priest.

As well, during the transition from Anglicanism to Catholicism most times the Anglican Priest has to stop practicing or give up his church while his discernment process is going through approval. This makes it a logical move to try to get a Chaplain type job which tend not to be so concerned about denominational ordination or license.

Just curious, did these priests receive the normal ordination rite or were they ordained subconditionae (spelling)? Just curious if the process still rigorously applies Apostolae Curae’s end reasoning or if the Vatican has altered course at all due to all the schismatic catholic bishops that have been participating in Anglican ordinations in recent decades.

(Let’s see if this thread activates the GKC bat signal!)

As a Jewish Convert a few people like Steve Ray when he was giving a talk and I got talking to him, called me a Completed Jew. But like that a completed Anglican/completed Jew makes no sense to me, so I always say Catholic. I just want to say having gone to an Anglican School, how its great to have you now in the Catholic Church, where in my opinion all Anglicans belong back with the Mother Church - the Catholic Church- all because Henry the V111 had a hissy fit because he could not get his own adulterous way, at the end of the day the Lord had the last laugh , no son sat on the Throne, plus his daughter was the last of the Tudor’s. All for what, six wives later, no son, and died of Syphilis. Some Founder of a Church.
