I’m interested in hearing what religions (if any) former Catholics took up after they left the Church, or what is practiced by the majority of non-Catholics with intention of converting. I was raised Methodist but have lately began seriously questioning it. After much investigation, I’ve decided not to become Catholic. However, there are so many other Christian and non-Christian faiths that I don’t know where to go from here!

Hi Mindy, I became nondenominational,Just a follower of Jesus Christ. To me nothing but my relationship with my Lord has changed. I have come closer to His Heart and have become the person He has called me to be.I encourage you to pray and seek the Lord to see where He wants you to be. God Bless.

Thanks. I like attending services and such, which is why I’m trying to find a new place to go. The university I attend is Catholic-oriented and they don’t offer any advice regarding other religions except to stay away from anything that’s not Catholic. There aren’t even any non-denominational student groups allowed. If it wasn’t for the scholarship, I’d transfer.

I was born and raised Catholic, but there were several things I just didn’t agree with. Currently I am studying Wicca, as the beliefs seem to fit more closely with my own. Personally, I believe all religions lead to the same Divine Creator in the end, but I feel that Wicca is the best religion for me to express my faith through.

I respect what you believe but I am here to tell you that there is only one way to the Father and that is through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said I am the Way,The Truth, And the Life. Without Jesus you will not see the kingdom of Heaven. .I disagree with you for Wicca will point you in the other direction. There is only one who can fill the void in your soul and that is Jesus Christ because that is the way God created you. 😉

I completely agree with this post. The truth is the truth, whether one believes it or not…it’s still the truth. Religion is not (and should not) be like Burger King. You don’t get to have it “your way”. It seems all to common these days to hear people say “well I don’t agree with that,” so they go look for a church that conforms to their views. If they don’t end up liking that church, they go and find another. Unfortunately this is backwards. People should be willing to let go of their personal preferences if they are contrary to truth, especially when one’s eternal soul is on the line.

You should do this as a Poll, then we could see the results histogram.

No there isn’t.
Jesus said I am the Way,The Truth, And the Life.
So what?
Without Jesus you will not see the kingdom of Heaven
I will.
I disagree with you for Wicca will point you in the other direction.
It won’t.

He isn’t.

I am a convert of nearly twenty years. However, if I were not Catholic, I would be non-denominational…probably the church my husband belongs to. The mainline Protestant churches seem to be pretty wishy-washy when it comes to things like abortion…same with the Lutheran and perhaps the Episcopal churhes (though I have to admit that I don’t really know about the Episcopal Church when it comes to the abortion issue).

Nondenominational evangelicals are strong in their faith, and tend to live it as fully as possible.

However, I AM a Catholic, and plan to stay that way!

No there isn’t.

So what?

I will.

It won’t.

He isn’t.
You put things so nicely. Descibed my thoughts exaclty. Thank you. 🙂 😉

I was considering converting to Catholicism about a month (it was a several-month-long process of consideration). But my spiritual practice both before and after that consideration was and is essentially Hindu.

Heathen and Blessedbe13. Our God is a patient and loving God.He,s waiting for you to come into his arms and hold you and love you because you are His creation. He loves both of you very much. Its not accidental that you are here. Gods spirit has drawn you in. How long will you deny Him? There is only one Truth and Jesus is the Way. Any other spirit thats tells you different is a lie from the pit of HELL. I will keep you both in my prayers.Heavenly Father I come to you in Jesus name.I ask Father that you remove the spiritual blinders from thier eyes that they me see the Truth, Lord Jesus let your spirit come upon them this day as you did with St.Paul, and convict thier hearts that they may know that you alone is the only way into Gods Kingdom. I pray in Jesus name Amen.

The Bible (especially OT) doesn’t support this (concerning the Christian God, Yahweh).
He,s waiting for you to come into his arms and hold you and love you because you are His creation. He loves both of you very much.
Love and the threat of hell are mutually exclusive.
Its not accidental that you are here. Gods spirit has drawn you in. How long will you deny Him?
We do not deny Him (the Creator), just the man-made doctrines that are told us of Him.
There is only one Truth
Agreed. Christianity isn’t it (the Christian God is real, but Christian truth-claims such as monotheism and hell are false).
Any other spirit thats tells you different is a lie from the pit of HELL.
There is no hell.
I ask Father that you remove the spiritual blinders from thier eyes that they me see the Truth,
Good. I trust the Father of Light knows what the real spiritual blinders are.

Spokenword,
you posted this so well:

It’s all about the Love our Lord God has for all of us…It hurts him deeply when we “do not” go thro is only Son Jesus Christ for salvation.

Love and the threat of hell are mutually exclusive. How many times am I going to have to say that?
It hurts him deeply when we “do not” go thro is only Son Jesus Christ for salvation.
It may hurt the Christian God, perhaps (and even then, He does accept Jews without Jesus); but the assumption that the Judaeo-Christian God is the only one, the Creator-God of All Things, is unsupported.

“Patient and loving” and sending/allowing people to go to a place of eternal torture don’t seem to mix. He also seems to be a jealous God, if I cannot worship the Divine in any other form but him.

No it isn’t. One day I typed in a search engine “Wiccan Forums” and somewhere in the list this site came up talking about the “evils” of Wicca, so I decided to check it out.
How long will you deny Him?
I may be denying the Bible’s description of the Divine, but I am not denying the Divine. I still have faith.
Jesus is the Way.
For some, but not for everyone.
Any other spirit thats tells you different is a lie from the pit of HELL.
Spirits have not told me anything regarding God. And I don’t believe in hell.
I will keep you both in my prayers.
Thank you.

Okay Dawn and Blessedbe13, do it your way,but I want you to know that Gods Words are Truth. Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Its your choice for God does not force himself on anyone. Choose Life or Choose Death. We are going to be held accountable for ouselves,we all will come before the Lord Jesus Christ for judgement whether you accept Him or you reject Him.I now wash my hands and move on. There are so many souls that are waiting to hear the Good News . So I continue in Jesus name. 😦

If you don’t think there is a hell…you will change your mind when you get there.

Sure. Now all you’ve got to do is prove the Bible is really God’s words.
We are going to be held accountable for ouselves,
S’right. And for what we do wrong, we pay. I believe there are no free gifts, and no blood of crucified saviour will ever wash all those away.
There are so many souls that are waiting to hear the Good News.
I don’t regard it as good news.

There’s a formal, Latin name for this type of argument: Argumentum ad Baculum, literally “Argument from the Stick”, meaning Appeal to Force or Fear. This is the argument that the school bully uses to make less able-bodied schoolkids comply to his demands: “Give me that quarter or you get a knuckle sandwich.” If there’s anything that can turn me, a spiritual seeker, away from a religion, it’s this, the Argumentum ad Baculum. Your signature says “Apologist in Training”—so here’s your first lesson in apologetics and evangelism: the appeal to the fear of people by the force of threat only works on the feeble-hearted and opportunists and shrewdly-calculating businessmen. For me, who look upon nothing but the spiritual merit of each religion, this appeal is no less short of blasphemy against God and cheapening spirituality to the level of prostitution.

Blessed be.

Heathen_Dawn’s post reflected my thoughts pretty well, so no need to restate what’s been said.

Mr. S., as for your comment, I do have to say that is one of the things that turned me off from Catholicism/Christianity. Threatening people with Satan/Hell to get them to behave a certain way and to join/stick with a particular religion, doesn’t seem to be good practice. People should behave certain ways/participate in religion, etc. based on beliefs, values, morals, etc. - not fear. Although I don’t particularly dislike Catholicism/Christianity, I don’t have a lot of respect for scare tactics.

As it was said, people are accountable for their own actions and need to deal with the consequences (in life) of their actions. The threat of going to “hell” won’t always “help” behavior either. Some people may figure, “well, I’m going to hell for doing a. Might as well do x, y, and z too.” Won’t be very beneficial for themselves or those around them.
