I am preoccupied with the topic of where we are headed as a nation here in America with regards to our religious freedoms. Although I agree that our christian brothers and sisters in places like India, Pakistan, China and elsewhere are definitely experiencing the most extreme forms of persecution, I believe that the kinds of persecution we are about to experience here in the US, although less extreme, are every bit as valid and actually open the door to the possibility of more extreme forms of persecution as we go forward. Here in America our rights are slowly, systematically being attacked using the legal system. In some areas of the country we are being labeled has “hate groups” for not supporting gay marriage or abortion. This mentality will grow and is already being promoted at the highest level…our president. In Europe, last month, he stated to the world that “America is no longer a Christian nation”. Today he refuses to observe National Day of Prayer in any meaningful way. What message does that send to the liberal left that wants to see all religion in America eradicated as if it were some malignant tumor? It sends a green light to go forward with stopping these “backwards thinking christians” from spreading their ideology to their children. They will start with the education system. If they can prevent little christian children from growing into adult christians, they will stem the tide, so to speak. That is just one prong of a multi pronged attack, I believe.
Any persecution of a group of people requires a certain mentality on the part of the masses. It only takes a large section of the public, vocal enough and determined in their agenda to affect a change in public policy. All they need is a little support from the government. In Hitler’s day, the German people generally despised and hated the Jews but they kept a modicum of restraint…until the German leaders began to enflame this sentiment. Law enforcement began to look the other way when crimes against Jews were committed. Persecution went from nasty comments to acts of violence in a very short period of time.
This can happen here. Don’t think for a second that it can’t. They didn’t think it could in Canada and the UK, either. Right now, the liberal left sees religion and Christian values as archaic and even dangerous! Persecution via the legal system in the UK and Canada are only slightly more advanced in these areas. Religion is slowly being choked out of existence in Europe. Homosexuality is being taught in their schools as a normal thing. Opting out is not an option for parents and doing so can result in jail time.
My reason for posting this is to generate discussion on the forms of persecution (however mild) that you have witnessed in your “neck of the woods”. The internet is a powerful tool to stay informed that we absolutely must make use of. It will probably be the only way to stay informed since the mainstream media will not report on these kinds of issues. Maybe Fox News will, but probably not.
Any kind of persecution of your beliefs, however mild or innocuous, is still persecution, even it’s source is our own legal system.
