As to the subject of the thread. I’m not sure that this was an honor killing. While it looks suspiciously similar. The husband doesn’t seem to have had a plan and family helping him out and protecting him. If I’ve read things right I think he even turned himself in. All of that seems out of character for an honor killing. I think this sounds like a crime of passion. He went into a rage killed his wife in a horrific and personal manner and then turned himself in.

Oh, it was about his “face” or his perceived honor. I’m just saying that in this specific case I don’t think it was any different than any other time someone kills because they feel they’ve been disrespected. I think the method is probably cultural as Westerners would be more likely to stab, strangle or shoot.

An “honor killing” though in the sense of the activity that is allowable under Sharia law (or at least not severely penalized), tends to have some common traits. Really it has to. Otherwise most murders would be allowable in Sharia courts. Yet other murders are just as illegal in Muslim nations as they are in the West. Honor Killings tend to have the compliance and/or participation of family members. The killer is seen as a “victim” in that they had to kill a “loved one” to save the family honor. This of course makes it worse than a crime of passion in the Western mind, as it is also a betrayal.

This particular murder lacks those pieces. Also if its true that the husband turned himself in then it suggests some level of remorse, or at least that he has something to answer for.

I do not know your background, but many people come from societies who have and are still suffering persecution by muslims. Maybe some sensitivity and allowances on their behalf would also serve here. One in nine Christians are living in persecution, mostly in Islamic majority countries. That doesn’t include those non-Christians alongside them who are also being persecuted. I have more compassion for them than Muslim Woman and her compadres-in-deceit getting a minute taste of disrespect back.
